The product, in the report: Elise Youth Bunk Bed in Soft White purchased from Walmart: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Elise-Bunk-Bed-Soft-White/10575812

The product is a bunk bed purchased from Walmart in March of 2011. The bottom bunk was used since purchase and the top bunk portion of the bed was stored until February of 2012 when our other daughter became old enough to use it. We luckily are using the beds as two twin beds on the floor rather than bunking them or someone could have been badly hurt. Tonight the side rail of the “top bunk” broke in half while we were reading to the kids. Had this been up in the air as it is designed to be a severe injury could have occurred. This bed has only been in use for 7 months and it certainly should not have broke in this way, there has been no foul play, we don’t allow our kids to jump on the beds or anything like that. Also, I should note that we are small, I weigh 140 and my wife weighs 110, our girls both weigh 30lbs, so us sitting on the bed to read to them should not over stress the bed.

This product is unsafe, we are not comfortable letting either of our daughters sleep on these beds any longer even they both are on the ground. We contacted Walmart right away but we don’t anticipate them being very helpful. We want to contact the manufacturer but the instructions we received with the bed do not give a company name or a number to call.

The part of the bed that failed is the “top front side rail.”
