No one hurt Made Aug 19, 2026, sent to the company Aug 24, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 9, 2026
The product, in the report: Max & Lily Modern Farmhouse Twin Low Loft Bed, Driftwood
I purchased two Maxwood Furniture low loft beds for my children. The beds are advertised as having a weight capacity of 400 pounds.
On the third night of use, while an adult was lying still in one of the beds with a child, the bracket securing the metal center support beam failed. The combined weight on the bed was approximately half of the advertised 400-pound weight capacity. There was no jumping, roughhousing, or unusual movement occurring when the failure happened.
The metal bracket that failed is identified in the assembly instructions as part #20674. The U-shaped portion of the bracket separated from its mounting plate at the connection points, causing the center support beam to drop. No one was injured, but the structural failure created a potential fall/collapse hazard.
After the failure, I inspected the corresponding brackets on both beds. The remaining brackets appear to use the same construction and connection points as the bracket that failed. Because these are childrens beds and the structural support failed after only three nights of normal use and at substantially less than the advertised weight capacity, I am concerned about the safety of continuing to use either bed.

The product, in the report: Max & Lily Loft Bed Twin Size, Solid Wood Low Loft Bed with Storage Drawer and Ladder, Modern Farmhouse Loft Bed for Kids, White Wash
Max & Lily Loft Bed Twin Size has one of the stairs part malfunction upon normal use. We have this bed in our daughter’s room and she is no where close to weight rating for this bed and the latch/part holding stair case to bed has broken down. This is a serious safety and fall hazard and we believe this is an issue with this bed’s design.

Hurt, care not known Made Jan 1, 2024, sent to the company Jan 4, 2024, published by CPSC Jan 22, 2024
The product, in the report: Max & Lily Kid’s Twin Over Twin-Size Low Bunk Bed, Natural finish, 50” tall, 81” long, 42” wide. Produced by Maxwood Furniture.
My 12 year old son fell when using his Max & Lilly Bunk Beds ladder, produced by Maxwood Furniture, Inc. He was uninjured but this is the second time (I have two of the beds for my 5 children) that the ladder has failed with regular use, ergo the likelihood of it being a poorly made/ designed product is high, and warrants reporting due to possibly causing injury. The first time the ladder failed I stepped on the second rung and went straight through at 165 lbs. (causing light scratches), my son’s ladder broke as of this report and he is 100 lbs. While I do not have the load rating for the ladder, the Max & Lilly website states that each sleeping surface can support 400lbs.

The product, in the report: Max & Lily Bunk Bed with storage drawers. Full over Full. Natural. https://maxandlily.com/collections/full-over-full-bunk-beds/products/full-bunk-bed-storage-drawers?variant=3730914836508 I believe the model number is 187251-001
Hello - I purchased a bunk bed from Max & Lily Furniture on April 25, 2021. The bunk bed is for my three-year-old daughter who, at the time, weighed 32 pounds. There are two major issues with the bed: offgassing and poorly designed slats. The bed is marketed as “meeting Green Guard certifications.” However, the bed offgassed for several months and my VOC meter detected a significant increase for the first two months. The bed is supposed to be using “water-based paints and glues” but clearly are not. The bed slats are 9” apart and cracked after two months of usage. Given the slat spacing, the mattress started sagging through the slats, despite Max & Lily’s claims that states: “fit standard sized mattresses up to 8 inches thick, and don’t require bunkie boards or box springs.” Other users have complained about this, but Max & Lily deletes negative reviews from their webstore. However, looking at Amazon and BBB suggests that this is a fairly frequent occurrence. The slats on these beds need to be addressed immediately and the company should stop their false advertising of being compliant with the Green Guard certification.

The product, in the report: Max & Lily 180214-001 Bunk, Twin/Twin, Natural https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079P28H2L/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_ReFgFb9DQ85XY
Bunk bed ends (head and foot boards) came loose and bed collapsed. The threaded insert that was pre-inserted when the product arrived to me for assembly seems to have stripped the wood. The bed was just assembled with metric bolts and has come loose many times in the past, which I have re-tightened. I made the manufacturer aware of this issue, even sent them a video of the wobbling bed before it collapsed. There solution was to switch to a shorter bolt in those locations, which makes no sense. Once I made theme aware of bed collapsing and the issue that caused it they did not reply to me. Thankfully none of my children were int he bed but they very well could have been. The bed was a little over a year old and the main selling point of it was “safety”. I want to make other parents aware of this company since they make many children furniture items so that this doesn’t happen to others and no one gets hurt.

First aid Made Jan 31, 2018, sent to the company May 10, 2018, published by CPSC May 24, 2018
The product, in the report: Wooden Twin/Twin bunk bed with trundle, #175201 Color Espresson Made by Maxwood Furniture Inc, 816 Johnnie Dodds Blvd, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464, USA Purchased from Wayfair.com under https://www.wayfair.com/baby-kids/pdp/max-lily-twin-over-twin-bunk-bed-with-trundle-bed-mxli1007.html?piid=21013026
On Monday night January 29th 2018 at 9PM PT, my 4 year old who weights 43 lbs, and the top board of the guardrail fell of the top bunk and landed with his head on a table.
That night, I have heard a huge bang and my son screaming. Due to the sounds, I knew instantly, that he must have fell out of the bed. It took what seemed forever to console him to be able to examine any of his body injuries and to see if a 911 call or ride to emergency room is necessary. After confirming that my son was able to move and didn’t seem to have anything broken, was making sense, did not display any issue with hearing or vision, did not start to throw up, and was no dizzy, I have decided to wait till the morning to call his pediatrician to see if he needs to be seen for a possible concussion. I have given him kids Advil and ice cold pack for his head and ear.
His injuries consist of: bleeding from a cut on his right ear, the ear is swollen, purple, has lots of bruising. On the right side of the head, behind his ear, is a bloody scratch, bump and bruise. The right side of the neck has a red mark as well. There is a big bruise on the right shoulder blade. I have documented all of the described injuries in pictures I have taken with my phone.
The bunk bed was purchased and delivered through Wayfair.com in October 2017, and my friend and I have assembled the bed together. It was a straight forward assembly, and we have followed the assembly directions that came with the bed.
The board from the guardrail that came off still has all pegs attached when it got dislocked. There are no screws to hold either of the two boards that make the guardrail. Both of the boards have just pegs. Those lock into the leg of the bed on one side and into a vertical slat on the other side. That vertical slat is attached by screws only on the bottom which still allows for the movement of the top part allowing for the pegs and rail to unlock.
