  1. No one hurt

Made Jul 21, 2012, sent to the company Aug 20, 2012, published by CPSC Sep 4, 2012

The product, in the report: http://www.target.com/p/columbia-twin-over-full-bunk-bed-with-trundle-bed-antique-walnut/-/A-10564521 Twin over full bunk bed with trundle (in white)

I purchased this bed in white from Target in January 2009. Recently I’ve seen the paint cracking where the wood appears to be separating on one of the legs, which concerns me. However, last night the wooden rail supporting the top bunk splintered and collapsed when my 110 pound daughter climbed into bed. My other daughter was in the bottom bunk, but thankfully did not get hurt.

I was concerned the wood leg supporting the bunk would fail, as it looked like it was weakening. However, I never expected this to happen. It seems the paint covers serious problems with the wood.

  2. No one hurt

Made Jul 15, 2012, sent to the company Aug 1, 2012, published by CPSC Aug 22, 2012

The product, in the report: twin over twin bunk bed made by Columbia The item number as listed at Heyneedle.com is: ATF205-21

After assembling the bottom part of the bunk bed, one of the side rails that hold the bed together split in a zig zag from top to bottom. The company was great in terms of replacing the piece; but my concern is that if it was the top bunk, the top bunk along with the child would have come crashing down on the bottom bunk and child.

The formation of the break indicates an obvious manufacturing defect.
