Emergency room Made May 25, 2011, published by CPSC Sep 1, 2011
The product, in the report: 24 inch glass vase
After filling the vase more than half full with water and attempting to move the vase from the counter to the sink using both hands it collapsed in her hands and imploded. She received lacerations to the left and right thumb.
She went to Meadville Medical Center and was given four to five stitches to the left thumb and seven stitches to the right thumb in the crease portion of the thumb. She also experienced nerve damage in both thumbs.
She recalled noticing shortly after purchasing the vase that one had broken prior to leaving the retailer (a vase in which she was purchasing). She went back to the retailer and asked the representative how the vase broke.
The representative advised the victim that she had placed it in a bag by itself and sat it on a counter top and it shattered on its own.
She has several of the vases- she is considering returning all of them, once legal litigation is over.
