The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. Hospital admission

Made Dec 18, 2024, sent to the company Dec 20, 2024, published by CPSC Jan 13, 2025

The product, in the report: Product: HealthSmart Toilet Seat Riser Color: White Size: 5” Raised Seat Dimensions: 15.7” L / 15.2” W

What happened: My mother fell off a toilet seat when the Toilet Seat Riser that she was sitting on snapped off / out of place when she was getting up. Product: Toilet Seat Riser - Manufactured for: Health Smart International / Waukegan, IL Item #: 522-1508-1901 (‘may also be listed as # 924-1508-1901) Sold by: Amazon Fulfillment Services Scenario: My mom was sitting on this product and was injured when she tried to get up. This product, unlike other riser seats that lock in to place with bolts, is held in place by a rubber gasket that fits snuggly (but not locked) in to the hole of the toilet seat itself. If the person simple gets up (using their legs only) or pushes down with equal pressure (using their arms / hands) on both sides (left and right) of the seat there is no problem. The problem can arise when the person gets up by only using one arm and pushes down on that one side. When that happens, the person is putting all of the downward pressure on that one side of the seat riser. My mom did exactly that. When she did, that asymmetric pressure caused the seat to literally pop out of place, and it sent my mom flying on to the hard tile bathroom floor. Injury: Fractured hip Reason for reporting this: So that other users of this product aren’t hurt (or worse) by it. It is my hope that this product is recalled - before someone like my mom is injured or dies!

The product, in the report: The HealthSmart Raised Toilet Seat Riser is an Amazon item I purchased to use during a hotel stay. It should have stayed on top of the toilet bowl securely but after I had sat on it while using the toilet, it shifted when I moved to stand up and threw me onto the tile floor. I sustained several injuries when I hit the hard tiles, contusions of soft tissue and have a massive hematoma from the accident. My knee, rump and leg were hurt and the lower discs on my spine were affected, causin sciatica and a numb foot. I went to an orthopedist and xrays were taken and physical therapy is ordered for the injuries.
