  1. No one hurt

Made May 24, 2014, sent to the company Jun 3, 2014, published by CPSC Jun 17, 2014

The product, in the report: Easy Power EP-169 LED flashlight. If you leave them plugged in then they will auto turn on in the event of a power failure. There are 5 LED’s as the main beam and there are 14 LED’s on the side to be used as a lantern.

I purchased 4 of the Easy Power EP-169 flashlights back in January of 2014.I plugged in all 4 to charege them up. 3 days later when I unplugged them one of them had one of the plug prongs break off and it was stuck in the outlet. I chalked it up to just one defect. I have one plugged into my bedroom since January in case there is a power outage. About 3am this morning my wife and I were awoken to a crackling sound from the flashlight. My wife saw a bright flash from the flashlight. I turned on the regular lights and the flashlight was exuding a burning smell and black smoke. I unplugged it right away. I really think it would have caught fire if I didn’t get to it in time. Thank God we were home. As a point, the other two are not plugged into any outlets. I charged them when 1st received but have never used them. I did throw away the boxes.
