The product, in the report: Coleman Micropacker LED Mini Lantern = 13 Lumens. Plastic body with a carry handle at top. Uses 3-AA batteries. Used for Cub Scout overnight camping.

A plastic mini-lantern using 3 AA batteries. Made by Coleman. Used normally at night as a portable light source. It has bright LEDs : 13 Lumens.

9 year old grandson was checking the unit to ensure batteries installed correctly and that it lit up. It did work, however while holding it the base became hot and he removed the 3 batteries. In doing so he scorched his right index finger. I check the unit and found it had melted at on the base of the battery holder section.

I reinstalled the batteries per directions provided and it instantly heated up again and was very hot. My 30 year old Eagle Scout son also tried correctly installing the batteries and it repeated its heating process again. We found the original box it came in and am now filing this report in hopes no other child faces this issue of overheating.
