Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

The product, in the report: heating, light ventillation system
Caller stated that she went in the bathroom and was getting ready for a shower when she heard a popping sound. She looked up and noticed that the heating and light ventilation system that holds the glass became unhinged and the glass fell out to the floor. The glass pieces shattered all over the bathroom floor and she feels that it is a dangerous product that poses a safety hazard for consumers. There were no property damages or injuries.
6/25/14 The manufacturer was contacted and she was informed that the product would be replaced. She stated that she informed the agent that she was not sure that she would like a replacement of that product due to it being unsafe.
Submitter stated that the lamp cover holding a heavy glass came unlatched and swung down. The glass slid out and fell to the floor, shattering into countless shards.
As evidence by the attached photographs, the latching system design is not adequate to hold the plastic frame containing a relatively heavy glass. The glass is not adequately secure in the frame to prevent it from falling out.
The cover had been opened (with great difficulty) on two occasions to facilitate changing the lamp. When closing the cover, there is no way of knowing if it latches properly. It is pushed upward until it stops, and one is to assume it is latched. It is feasible that vibration from the motors in the unit could overcome the shallow plastic latches. Even so, the glass should not fall out.

The product, in the report: NuTone Bathroom Fan & Light Product # LS-80L
We installed NuTone Bathroom Fans/lights into our New Home for all three Bathrooms. The Tention Springs have always allowed the Plastic/Glass covers to droop. Last Year in our Master Bath we had one fall on its own and shatter the glass. We replaced the Glass and tried to make the tention springs hold up the covers better. Last week we had it fall again. I am concerned that this will fall on our Twin Daughters and cause serious injure.
