The product, in the report: 18” Florescent light, mounted under a cabinet according to instructions.
We had a 18” florescent light under the counter, above our sink. It is specifically called “under cabinet light” by Lights of America Model UCL7000-1. It has been installed there for around 8 years and never had any problems until today when it caught fire due to the capacitor burning up. My husband could smell it but couldn’t figure out what it was until the capacitor burned through the plastic and fell into the sink. It also burned the cabinet a little. It had only been on for around an hour. It has the correct bulb and was plugged in correctly to a wall socket by itself. Luckily it went out when it fell into the sink and didn’t ignite the cabinets or anything else.

No one hurt Made Sep 10, 2015, sent to the company Sep 18, 2015, published by CPSC Oct 2, 2015
The product, in the report: Metal base with plastic end caps (surrounding the tube receptacle) and a plastic diffuser. Approx 24 inches long.
A fluorescent lamp fixture melted, apparently after the tube burned out. Seems it should have tripped the line breaker but did not. I checked the breaker operation which was satisfactory. It appears that when the tube failed it somehow shorted across the pins which caused the end of the fixture to melt. I was not at home at the time. I asked my wife if she ever smelled anything like electrical smoke. She said yes, but she could not find it, because the fixture was a top a TV cabinet as an indirect light. It was in a position for good ventilation, so that was not an issue.

No one hurt Made Jul 10, 2011, published by CPSC Aug 2, 2011
The product, in the report: this is a cut and paste from their website Model: 9385 - 85W Fluorescent Canopy Light (White) 85 Watt Fluorescent Canopy Light. Lights up a 60’ x 60’ car port, garage, or basement. Mounts on walls, under eaves or as a landscape light. Automatically turns on at night, off in the morning. Electronic operation for sub-zero temperatures. 85W BULB INCLUDED.
The area where these lights are installed, I started smelling a burning smell and tracked it down to all these Lights of America fixtures. I removed the covers to find that the inside has melt all the way thru and starting to melt the two wires on the back. I went to the website ( Lights of America) to find that that changed a few things in the installation manual from the manuals that i have in front of me that came with the lights. My manual says ceiling mount ONLY and they changed the new manuals to Wall mount only which wouldn’t make since sine the light is a Canopy light and we all know what the define of canopy is and they had offered two types, a wall or ceiling mount flood light or these canopy lights which even on the pictures on the box show ceiling mounted in a Gym and advertise for garage, carport, basement and those wouldn’t get a wall mount. I have pictures of units before i removed and i removed just in time before the wires were damaged by heat and cause my house to burn down.
