The product, in the report: ELCO track lighting head model ET547 W. This is a white low voltage track lighting head. At the time of the incident a 35w MR16 type bulb was installed in the head.

I installed a new ELCO ET547 track lighting head on an existing section of track. When I turned the sestion of track on at the dimmer switch, there was a loud pop and puff of smoke from the dimmer and the dimmer was destroyed. I removed the track head and confirmed that the bulb that the bulb was compatible with the track and a working bulb and tested the track head on another section of track that had a standard light switch. When I turned the switch on, the circuit breaker protecting that circuit immediately tripped.

The track head is obviously defective and is a fire hazard.
