The product, in the report: Broan Nutone #QTXN100HL-A
About 5 years ago I installed a Broan Nutone bathroom ceiling light heater fan unit as part of a remodel. The unit is #QTXN100HL-A. About 2 years ago I noticed that the plastic lens cover over the light recess no longer fit properly. It would fall out of the unit onto the floor. I also noticed some discoloration and apparent warping of the plastic grill next to the light recess. This warping and “melting” of the plastic got worse. I called the company about 6 months ago and explained my concern that the recommended 60W bulbs might be causing a problem and I was concerned about a possible fire hazard. I was told by a woman in their tech department that that shouldn’t be happening and that they would send a replacement out to me. About 2 months ago I called back after not hearing any word on a replacement unit. I spoke with [REDACTED] ext [REDACTED]. He told that that replacement unit was very expensive and that without a receipt I would not receive a replacement. Last week I decided to just bite the bullet and buy a replacement unit, and spoke with [REDACTED] in the Cincinnati office ([REDACTED]. I told [REDACTED] I would be sending them the old unit to inspect for areas of concern. Today I spoke with [REDACTED] at their tech service. He was more intent on telling me what a quality product I had purchased and he was focused on the cracked plastic at the mounting screw area of the grill. I told him I was more concerned about the melting, warping and discoloration of the old unit. He said that there was nothing he could do since the product was out of warranty (a very generous warranty - he emphasized). I want to be reimbursed for the new grill. I believe the old grill was defective. OR, it may be that the product is defective. I would like this to be investigated.
