The product, in the report: Beyond Bright Ultra Motion - Activated LED Garage Light, Model 2040 Distributed by Ontel Products Corportion. ETL Listed. Screw-in (E26) base, multi panel adjustable LED light designed for garage or basement ceiling use. Packaging state “last 30 plus years (based on 4 hours use daily) WHICH NEVER HAPPEND... Purchased from Home Depot.. We do not use the dimmer. Our basement is DRY and perfect condition. Size of our house. That’s why we had 8 units.

Eight (8) Beyond Bright Ultra Model 2040 Motion activated LED garage lights were installed in a residential basement environment and accumulated approximately five total hours of use over three years. Three units completely separated from the threaded screw base after overheating. One additional unit pulled apart from the base during removal. Several units show internal PCB heat discoloration near the AC input section. In at least 3 units, internal plastic support post within the driver housing appear thermally degraded and fractured. During the time these lights were installed, a smoke alarm in the same basement area activated repeatedly with full alarm (not lot battery chirping) The alarms occurred when the lights were in use. No visible fire source was identified each time. After removal and inspection revealed internal overheating and structural damage, we believe the alarm activation may have been related to heat or particulate from the failing fixtures. The product packaging states “Last 30 plus years (based on 4 hours per day usage). The observed structural and thermal degradation occurred despite extremely limited use. All units were removed due to concern of potential electrical fire hazard. Photos documenting structural separation and internal damage are available.

The product, in the report: “Beyond Bright” light fixture, Model Number 21035

About 6 months ago, I purchased a “Beyond Bright” light fixture, Model Number 21035 from Home Depot and installed it in the light socket in my laundry room. Yesterday, I the plumber was replacing some copper pipes in the laundry room and the light was on while he was working. I smelled a strange odor and around the same time, the plumber yelled to me that he smelled something burning. I ran to the laundry room and he noticed that smoke was starting to form around the light fixture and turned off the light. I removed the light from the fixture and noticed that the plastic lenses and plastic housing had started to melt. I believe that had I not been home and had left the light on, my house would have caught on fire.
