The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Dec 24, 2014, sent to the company Jan 9, 2015, published by CPSC Jan 26, 2015

The product, in the report: Ballard Designs Eldridge Rectangular Chandelier Item Number: LC647 Dimensions: Overall: 13 1/2”H up to 55 1/2”H Drop X 40”W X 14”D Ceiling Plate: 30”W X 5”D Includes six (6) 12” and two (2) 6” extension rods.

A chandelier was hung above our dining room table in 2011 as a new product. It extends from the ceiling on 12” rods which thread together--2 thread together and form a 24” drop from the ceiling plate. Where these rods meet and thread together in the middle of the 24” drop, the thread was not strong enough to hold the light fixture and they pulled apart and the chandelier was hanging from only one of its sides and the side which was no longer supporting was inches above my dining room table. Had this occurred 2 hours later, it would have likely hit someone sitting at the dinner table for Christmas Eve dinner. Had we not been home and removed the fixture immediately, the weight that was placed on the remaining rod would have likely given way and it would have fallen completely on top of the table and shattered glass which could have injured my dog who would have been home alone--either from flying pieces, shattered glass or any other possible result.
