The product, in the report: Light bulb, halogen BT15 shape, medium base, 100 watt, 120 volt. See attached photos of product in its package.

Light bulbs were properly installed in a wall-mounted, bathroom light fixture. Upon turning light switch to “on” position, the light bulb exploded with a loud crack, sending glass shards around the room up to eight feet away. Fortunately the light switch is located in the hall outside the bathroom, so the person switching the light was not in the bathroom itself. This is the second incident with this model light bulb, which we adopted following 14 years using a similar [REDACTED] in these fixtures without any problems.

  4. No one hurt

Made Oct 25, 2012, sent to the company Nov 2, 2012, published by CPSC Nov 27, 2012

The product, in the report: Compact Fluorescent (CFL) light bulb

I purchased 3 cases of Sunlite CFL light bulbs through Lightbulbsdirect.com during July 2012. I have filed a complaint with the state of New Jersey because Lightbulbsdirect.com is located in Eatontown, N.J.. I am filing the New York state because the distributer, Sunshine Lighting. Their location is Brooklyn, NY 11231.

These bulbs were sold as 8000 hour CFL bulbs. I installed the first case of twelve in the ceiling can lights in both the kitchen and bathroom of my home. Within a seconds one bulb quit working. The following morning my wife discovered a lens laying on an area rug in the kitchen. It did not break apparently due to falling on the rug. Soon after, another bulb shed it’s lens just above my wife’s head. This one missed a rug and broke into many pieces. Neither of the rubber like seals or lens glass showed any kind of sealant!

Lightbulbsdirect.com put Shunshine Lighting’s representative, [REDACTED], in touch with me. MR. [REDACTED] suggest that my home’s electrical wiring to be defective. We had just moved in during May but the house was custom built in 1999.

I have presently removed everyone of these Sunshine bulbs. Before doing so, the entire first case of Day Light Color bulbs were inoperative. I did have a licensed electrician come to my home and he has certified that the problem was not my electrical system.

My electrician informed me that most of these bulbs are from overseas and do NOT have any testing. Sunshine’s Sunlite bulbs come from China and show no sign of testing or approval. It was further noted that, for example, Home Depot only sells these type bulbs that are tested and approved. I bought my replacement bulbs at Home Depot and they are UL certified and from China.

I addition to the falling/breaking glass there is also the mercury hazard. My living room ceiling is 20 feet high and contains nine light cans!

I wish to be reimbursed for the three cases of bulbs $322.20 plus any return shipping and handling charges. Also, my electricians charges.
