We turned on the overhead light fixture and noticed one of the lights was flickering. We checked to see if it may be a loose bulb, it wasn’t. We removed the bulb that was flickering and found the plastic base beneath the globe was cracked all the way around the globe, from the globe to the screw in base on one side and directly opposite from the screw in base almost to the globe. The globe also has dark spots as if the plastic overheated from inside.

The product, in the report: Satco 100 watt, LED, globe light bulbs Model S11368

(9/2021) One time when they were away from home, one bulb was in a pendant light, over an island in the kitchen, exploded. Glass spread everywhere in the kitchen. They are not sure where the light was in the “off” or “on” position.

(10/2021) The consumer replaced the bulb with another one from the same pack and the same thing happened. However, the bulb was in the “on” position this time. The consumer’s husband wanted to know if the bulb was hot and he placed a finger on it and that’s when it exploded. The bulb had been on for more than 30 minutes at the time. They cleaned up the glass and there were no injuries.

The consumer called the manufacturer on a Sunday, but no one was available.

The consumer contacted the dealer and was told that they would contact their representative. The consumer has corresponded with the dealer, but they have not heard back from their supplier. They also asked the consumer to check their pendant lamp, but the consumer does not have the tools to do this.

The consumer said they have used this fixture for 15 – 20 years and had never experienced any problems in the past. They have always used incandescent globe bulbs, but they burned out more frequently. So she tried these LED bulb and this was the first time that she used LED bulbs in this fixture.

Both incidents occurred in the same fixture.

The product, in the report: SATCO S9975 15T8/LED/48-830/DR 15 Watt LED, color temperature 3000K medium Bi pin base 2100 Lumens Date code: 1727 Model S9975

A squeak like noise and then a “pop” was heard from our overhead light fixture that contains two SATCO S9975 15T8?LED/48-830/DR LED lights. We called electrical contractors who opened the fixture and found that one of the LED lights overheated and burned, breaking the glass tube. The breakage was contained within the plastic diffuser of the light fixture. The inside of the failed LED showed extreme heat and burning. The failure is a hazard as the braking tube shatters small glass particles which is a sight hazard. The burning is a potential fire hazard. Our electrical contractors and the lighting vendor that supplied the fixture and bulbs do not remember any such failure occurring.

The product, in the report: bulb

Caller stated that the bulb started smoking after being in the light fixture for almost 2 years, the base of the bulb detached. This was not the first incident, she had to call the fire department because she could not detect where the smoke was emitting from on the first incident (2014).

Caller feels that these bulbs are a fire hazard and should be recalled.
