  1. No one hurt

Made May 9, 2022, sent to the company May 26, 2022, published by CPSC Jun 10, 2022

    The product, in the report: CFL lightbulb, small with white base 120 V 60HZ 14W 0.200 A V #42836

CFL bulb blew out and appears to have fire hazard type damage to it. The bulb is “N:Vision” SKU# 292-460, Model EDXO-14 120 V 60HZ 14W 0.200A V#42836 The base of the bulb where the glass connects is brown and discolored and smells burnt, and broken in on both sides where the bulb connects to the base. The broken parts look like they are decayed, not broken by force or an accident. This bulb was being used normally in a socket that says “no higher than 60 W”. Upon searching for any information on this bulb I’ve seen other people post about the same issue on social media and the discoloration pattern looks exactly the same. It looks like this model may be a fire hazard.

The product, in the report: n:vision light bulbs

I recently replace all flourescent light bulbs in my kitchen with new ones that I purchased from my place of employment for Earth day. When I remove the kitchen bulbs, they literally fell apart in my hands. Not only were they crumbling, but the base of the bulbs is melted and cracked and toasted brown. Very scary indeed. Luckily I was wearing glasses so shards didn’t get into my eyes. These bulbs look like a fire hazard and there was literally no warning that there was a problem.

    The product, in the report: light bulb manufactured by N:VISION, 14W .200A,model EDXO-14,sku # 423-599,120V 60Hz,

I bought a n:vision light bulb.It was guarenteed for 5 years. It has just burned out after only 14 months of light use.The bulb is only 14W.I am concerned about burning and melting at the base of the bulb tubes, and the base is burned. These bulbs are supposed to be cool to the touch and should never overheat to the point of melting, which some of the base is in fact melted.I am going to mail this bulb to you for examination.I need an address to send it to.Thank you. The product, in the report: spiral compact fluorescent light bulb 120V 60hz

A compact fluorescent light bulb I have been using for two or three years suddenly burst into flames. Had I not be nearby and able to quickly put out the flames, the room and perhaps my entire house would have been engulfed. As it was, an expensive brass desk lamp was destroyed and my home office where the bulb was used still reeks of the smell from the burned bulb. Given the type of bulb it is likely that mercury vapor was released in my house. The bulb was in a modern lamp that was well within the 60 watt equivalent capacity of the bulb. The lamp did not have a dimmer or other features that would make it incompatible with a compact fluorescent light bulb.

The brand name on the bulb is n:vision which is sold exclusively by Home Depot. The SKU number was burned off but the lot number is 51Y6.

I have this same brand of bulbs, some of the same power, installed all over my house. Based on this incident I believe these bulbs to be ticking time bombs and should be recalled. I have saved the bulb and my lamp for inspection by a technical expert if that would be useful.

I turned on my son’s lamp and the light bulb popped like the bulb burnt out. A small flame shot out and then suddenly large flames were shooting up through the lampshade as I bent over. The flames extinguished when we unplugged the electrical cord.

The product, in the report: 23Watt compact flourescent bulb

We have had a compact flourescent bulb manufactured by n:vision part number edxo-23 installed in our kitchen for the past 6-9 months. Today the bulb began to flicker like a tradition florescent bulb when either the starter was going bad or the bulb was going bad. The light was turned off for 15-20 min and restarted. Once power was reapplied the florescent buldb violently exploded over my wife’s head, shattering the florescent bulb, sending glass flying around the kitchen and narrowly missing her eyes. The base of the compact florescent exploded apart as well. I have a second bulb from the same manufacturer that has a burn hole on the side of the base of the bulb which I was going to return to Home Depot for disposal.
