The product, in the report: “StudioFX H9004SB2 2400 Watt Large Photography Softbox Continuous Photo Lighting Kit 16” x 24” + Boom Arm Hairlight with Sandbag H9004SB2 by Kaezi” Visible at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MBVOIJU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Purchased photographic lighting equipment that uses four high-power spiral-tube, “CFL” fluorescent lamps arranged in a cluster within each lighting unit, or “light head.” There are three light heads in the kit that was purchased, making a total of 3x4=12 fluorescent lamps. Each lamp carton is marked with a warning regarding mercury. Immediately upon applying power, one of the three light heads began making an acrid odor consistent with a mix of hot chemicals. This odor was so bad I opened all the windows of our home for ventilation. It was not clear what the exact nature of the odor was. After an hour or two of operation, one of the four fluorescent lamps in the smelly light head began to make an electrical buzzing sound, then it made a “POP” sound and then one of the fluorescent lamps went dark. The odor, acrid-chemical-solvent-metallic-hot became intense. I felt numb-headed, light-headed, as did my wife. We both don’t feel normal now. Neither of us have been the same since, which was on or about NOV 23 2019. Might hazardous chemicals, including mercury, have been emitted by the fluorescent lamp that failed? Each lamp is rated for 45 Watts, 2800 Lumens (high power relative to typical fluorescent spiral lamps), 5000K color balance. Might the CPSC be able to test for mercury, or refer us to an appropriate resource? I have retained all the original equipment and documentation and can provide whatever information you request, including photos and I can also ship items on request. Thank You For All You Do.
