  1. No one hurt

Made Jun 14, 2011, published by CPSC Jul 6, 2011

The product, in the report: 20 Watt Halogen bulb replacement

The product is a HIKARI 20 Watt tubular Halogen Bulb repalcement used for under cabinet lighting.

The item was purchased from 1000bulbs.com. The part number is JCD 130V 20W G8 35MM.The country of origin is P.R.C. The incident occurred on Saturday June 11th, 2011. The lights were on during a family event for some time. Suddenly one of the bulbs exploded, it blew the lamp cover off and sent glass materials in all directions. Fortunately, no one was hurt but some food had to be thrown out. This is the first time I have ever had a bulb explode. I am removing all halogen lamps from use in my home as a result. I am concerned about the quality of this product as manufactured. I suspect these and all Halogen bulbs are being made outside of the US. I am very suspect of the quality controls to produce this product in the Peoples Republic of China. I don’t believe these products are safe for use by anyone anylonger.
