I moved into a house in 2020 with these bulbs installed in the bathroom vanity fixture. On March 11 2024 at about 10pm, I was brushing teeth at this bathroom sink with the vanity lights on when I heard a pop/click noise and looked up to see that white smoke was starting to pour out of one of the bulbs in the vanity fixture. The smoking bulb was still producing light. I quickly switched off the lightswitch for the vanity and began to smell acrid smoke as it spread out in the bathroom. I turned on the overhead ceiling vent, opened windows, and ran a HEPA filter to try to remove the smoke and smell. It really smelled horrendous. I removed the bulb from the fixture and put it in a plastic bag. Video taken shortly after turning off lightswitch shows the smoke produced in the five or so seconds it was smoking: [REDACTED]
I have reported this incident to Feit customer support.

The product, in the report: The product is a larger size LED bulb made by Feit Electric. The Bulb is a “Conserv-Energy” trademarked named bulb. The bulb has cooling veins and measures 3 and 3/4 inches across at the top of the flat “globe” / cone part where light is emitted. The bulb is 4 and 3/4 inches in length. It is white The top of the flat “globe”/ cone where light is emitted has a central flat clear plastic diffuser cover measuring 2 and 1/4 inches with a fly-eye pattern in the clear plastic. It has a single large central LED which is surrounded by cooling veins. When viewing from the Light emitting surface you see a white, round outer ring composed of cooling vents followed by a gap of approx. 1/8th of an inch. Inside that is another white ring which is the housing for the clear plastic diffuser cover. Inside and below that clear plastic diffuser there are outer cooling vents which are white then there is a central mirrored region measuring 1 and 1/4 inch and within that is the large central LED measuring 5/6th of an inch. The components are readily visible through the top of the bulb. The side view of the bulb is that of a top, a middle and a bottom piece. The top of the bulb measures 2 inches in length and is a portion of a tapering cone downward to the middle component. This top component is white and consists of cooling vents. The middle component of the bulb measuring approximately 1 and 1/2 inches long is a white, flat smooth plastic cylindrical component with the manufacturer & bulb information printed on it. The bottom portion of the bulb appears to be a silver colored standard screw end for a bulb measuring approximately 1 inch long.
A Feit Conserv-Energy LED light bulb caught fire, exploded (making a aloud noise) and severely scorched the can light where it was installed inside our home in a dry dining area with no dimmer nearly causing a fire. Luckily we were home and heard it happen from another room and went to investigate seeing sparks, and a foul electrical-like fire smell and smoke that filled the room as debris rained down. We immediately turned the wall switch off which then smoke continued for a time and a glow was visible inside the recessed can light area. The fixture was dry, not a dimmer-type and not enclosed. It was not subject to vibration. The light bulb was Feit electric Conserv-Energy BPCEPAR30/LEDg5 15W 120 VAV 60Hz 135mA 790 LUMENS Listed 4KZ0 E330072

The product, in the report: FEIT 9W 5000K daylight replacement light bulb (#E330072) 4MH9280-1-16-21
FEIT 9W 5000K daylight replacement light bulb (#E330072) for incandescent bulbs that screw into a standard lamp fixture.
The light began flickering and when checked I noticed that the bulb jiggled when touched which caused it to go on and off with only very slight movement.
While unscrewing the bulb it separated at the base, leaving the exposed electronics power module in the socket and the bulb section in my hand.
I disconnected the lamp and removed the base with electronics module. After removal, I discovered the screw-in base is NOT securely fastened to the light bulb section. It’s merely a press-in fitting that can be easily separated, thus exposing the electronics and presenting a potential shock hazard.

Re: Feit Electric A19/OM800/LED/2 dimmable LED bulb
We had these installed in open-topped sconces similar to this: [REDACTED]
The lights were on when the person sitting in the room heard noise and saw flames coming out of one of the sconces. He was able to blow out the flames. The bulb inside had melted. There are scorch marks on the wall. It would have set a fire if no one had been sitting right there.
Other people are posting reviews on Amazon saying their bulbs did the samet thing: [REDACTED] [REDACTED]
We submitted an inquiry to the company via their online contact form when it happened a week ago but have not had any response

The product, in the report: FEIT LED BULB FEIT CE18W/TM/D/6 and two FEIT LED ESL 18TM
Last night August 20, 2017, a ceiling mounted light fixture with 3 LED bulbs that had been on for about an hour malfunctioned completely, burning one bulb and damaging the remaining two lights. They are all FEIT LED bulbs. The melted bulb is a FEIT CE18W/TM/D/6 and remaining two are FEIT LED ESL 18TM. All three lights burned out, filling the house with toxic fumes and the fear of a possible fire. Although it was difficult to remove the twisted melted bulb all three were removed safely after turning off the electricity. No was injured but toxic fumes did leave the family of four with sore throats and headaches. This incident could have led to a far more tragic result as the fixture was directly above the bed. After reading other reports concerning these bulbs I will be removing all remaining FEIT LED bulbs in my home and hope that FEIT personnel will address these reports with more than a generic company statement. I purchased the bulbs at COSTCO and will also be informing them of my concerns.

The product, in the report: Feit 9.8W LED bulb BPAG800DM/LED
I have several Feit BPAG800DM/LED bulbs installed in recess lights in my basement. Yesterday when we turned on the light, after a minute or two, the light bulb began arcing, burst into flames, and dropped onto the couch beneath. The light burned a hole in a pillow and started a smoldering fire. Luckily we were present and were able to remove the pillow from the basement.
The LED bulb appears to have had an electronics failure where the bulb meets the screw in base. The metal base remained in the fixture after the bulb fell out.

The product, in the report: 40 watt “FEIT brand) Halogen Light Bulb
Upon turning the light in our stairwell on as I stepped onto the first step the bulb exploded and sent glass everywhere, this was made worse by the bulb shattering the glass of the fixture it was being used in. I contacted the manufacturer and they proposed several reasons this may have happened (non of which pointed to a product defect) so I thought it prudent to bring this to a larger audience. In our situation there did not appear to be a fire hazard but I am concerned someone else may experience fire if this happens to them. I happened to be right next to the fixture when it happened so I turned the power off and aside from glass in my hair and on my head no other harm came about. the Manufacturer of the product is FEIT Electric and while the fixture has been in operation for 8-9 years with this having never happened they believe it was external conditions at the cause and not the product.

We purchased Feit fluorescent light bulbs from our Staten Island Home Depot store. For the second time one of the fluorescent light bulbs we use in our kitchen fixture has burned, filled our home with what smells like poisonous gas and caused our lungs to hurt. The first time this happened we thought it was an strange occurrence. But now this second time we know this brand of light bulbs are defective when they fail. Both lights flickered for awhile before they failed and then burned very hot and caused a lot of smoke. Smoke should not be coming from a light bulb when it fails. Lights should just go out, they should not poison us and try to burn down our home. This is absolutely ridiculous. As evidence we have saved the light bulb in question and we plan to have it tested. The air in our home smells like pure poison right now. Melting plastics sometimes let out cyanide gas and we are very concerned.
What’s even more shocking is that as we try to contact Home Depot and Feit, there is no way for a customer to quickly and efficiently report a hazardous product such as this one. They need a link on your website for dealing with dangerous items. This is purely negligent and irresponsible on the part of Home Depot. Had we been asleep, this light bulb could have caused a fire in our home. Only god knows the type of poisonous gases we’ve inhaled this evening.

The product, in the report: Feit Conserv-Energy 18W light bulb
We have Feit Conserv Energy light bulbs throughout our office. We just had one in our business office explode. It caused glass to rain down and rained glass near one employee’s head, and smoke bellowed from the canned lighting fixture. Thank goodness for circuit breakers doing their job and cutting the power to the office. In reviewing this site I’m seeing many similar malfunctions. Wondering if we need to replace all the lights in our office? We recently had another bulb go out that was replaced at about the same time as the one that exploded.

I have had 2 Feit light bulbs become extremely hot and one shot a flame out of it and one became so hot it starting glowing red and melted the base of the bulb. It smoldered and smoked until I unplugged the lamp. This has happened twice and I contacted the company the first and second time. I even sent them video of the bulb melting down. I have had no response as of this time. I feel these bulbs are a very serious fire hazard with potential deadly consequences. Something should be done.

The product, in the report: “Curly”-type compact fluorescent lightbulb
On the evening of 9/21/11 we were sitting in the living room and my wife said she smelled something hot. She searched around the room, and as she approached a lamp the odor was stronger. At that point I saw smoke curling up from the CFL in the lamp. The bulb was still lit. We quickly unplugged the lamp, and after the bulb had cooled down removed it, noting that it was scorched and discolored where the tube meets the base.
The bulb in the lamp was a Feit 3-way CFL with the numbers ESL50/150T/ECO (E1), 115-09-08B, and UL #E170906. It was installed 10/9/2009.
This incident was particularly alarming since we always leave a light on when we’re away, and it usually has been a CFL that was used. We will no longer use CFLs in that way. This incident does not bode well for the phasing in of CFLs in 2012.

We had an incident involving our 4 daughters, ages 8, 6, 5, and 3, and a FEIT CFL light bulb. This bulb is not older than a year at best. It is hard to describe accurately without being an electrical engineer, exactly what happened. After our girls were playing in our guest room with the lights on, then moving to another area to play, my wife, [REDACTED], noticed a peculiar smell coming from the room. It smelled of electrical burning/overheating. This smell led her to the guest room where she found a particular lamp flickering. She immediately turned off the power to the lamp, and unplugged it. The fumes were so potent as to overwhelm her and give her chest pains. She immediately opened the windows to ventilate and stepped outside for her own safety. Thankfully our children had moved to another floor in the home. She found the source of the fumes to be emanating from the base of the CFL. Upon further inspection, she noticed an area of the bulb housing that was burnt. She asked our children about it, if they noticed anything, and our oldest daughter stated she heard a funny sound coming from that lamp. My wife Goggled, “FEIT Electric” and found several incidents of reported bulbs exploding, and house fires. Feel free to Google this information yourself

The product, in the report: Feit Electronics 75W Equivalent CFLs Item No: ESL18TM/18
Compact Flourecent Light Bulb Burn Out, Melt, Smoke
Feit Electric: 75W Equivalent CFLs, Item No: ESL18TM/18 purchased at Costco, Hillsboro, OR USA
2 of these bulbs have created hazard when they failed.
1) Plastic base housing turned brown from heat and completely melted hole in the housing 2) Smoke from the melting
Why are these bulbs safe? Feit said this is “normal” burn out. That is absurd.
I consider these unsafe and have put my house in fire danger.
