First aid Made Sep 9, 2026, sent to the company Sep 14, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 28, 2026
The product, in the report: On September 9, 2026, an EcoSmart LED light bulb, SKU 1002338665, Model A7A19A100WE3005, stopped operating in an open/non-enclosed fixture in my garage. When I removed the failed bulb, I noticed that the base was hot. An unidentified clear/oily liquid-like substance with an unusual chemical odor was present on the bulb and got extensively onto my hand while I was handling it. I immediately washed my hand with soap and water. The bulb was not being used in an enclosed fixture. I preserved the bulb and photographed the product markings. The bulb is marked 15.5W, 1600 lumens, 120V, 3000K, manufacturing code 1803 and UL LED Lamp E345327. I am concerned that an internal electrical component may have overheated or failed and released an unidentified chemical substance, potentially creating a chemical-contact and/or overheating/fire hazard.

Hurt, no treatment Made May 6, 2026, sent to the company May 8, 2026, published by CPSC May 22, 2026
The product, in the report: EcoSmart (a Home Depot brand) LED light bulb. Label information: LED LAMP E320663 4SF0 Made in China ECSA2300WEB27SOME26 120V 60Hz 290mA 33W 2700K “3022XL” 4000 lumens
A Home Depot EcoSmart LED lightbulb weighing almost a pound broke off at the stem from a ceiling fixture and crashed down 10 feet to the floor. This has happened 3 times. One time it hit me in the shoulder, just missing my head. Another time it almost hit my kitten in the head.

No one hurt Made Dec 18, 2025, sent to the company Jan 7, 2026, published by CPSC Jan 22, 2026
The product, in the report: Product details on bulb: Ecosmart LED screw base bulb 4EU2 LED Lamp, UL Certified E345327, Model 11A04090WESD002, 5 W, 450 Lumens, 3000K 120 Volt 71ma 60 Hz, Made in China 1824
I just missed being electrocuted by this LED bulb. Its outer ring on the standard screw base continues upward at the base of the lamp enough to contact the reflector on a portable trouble light I was using. The trouble light is an older model without a polarized plug- I expect there are still many of these in service. Therefore the light reflector and clamp were hot. As I held the clamp and attempted to attach it to a grounded sewer pipe suspension rod, a strong electrical arc developed between the lamp clamp and the suspension rod. Further examination revealed arcing evidence between the LED bulb extended screw base and the lamp reflector to which the clamp was attached. Had I had a hand on the grounded suspension rod and the lamp clamp at the same time I would not be writing this report. Product details on bulb: Ecosmart LED screw base bulb 4EU2 LED Lamp, UL Certified E345327, Model 11A04090WESD002, 5 W, 450 Lumens, 3000K 120 Volt 71ma 60 Hz, Made in China 1824 There were no injuries.

The product, in the report: Ecosmart LED A19 dimmable 9.7W 840 lumens lightbulb. Purchased from Home Depot. It was in an 8 pack. SKU 1006777870 model 11A19060WESD083
Screwed an Ecosmart daylight A19 9.7W LED lightbulb into a light fixture, and it arched. Blew the circuit breaker and rendered the dimmer switch inoperable. I unscrewed the lightbulb into question and noticed a wire sticking out where the threads are.

The product, in the report: LED Light Bulb Fire Fire date: 3-15-2025 Event: My wife was in the room and heard something that sounded like glass breaking. She looked up and saw a 3-4 inch flame coming from the bulb. It was not a sustained fire but it did create black soot that contaminated my ceiling paint within a three-foot diameter. The fixture had minor heat damage along the leading edge of the phenolic base. No damage to wiring in the fixture base. Notes: The failing LED never pulled enough current to trip the 15 Amp circuit breaker. Open air application (not enclosed) Purchased from Home Depot See the associated photos. Method of Failure: The rectifier located in the bulb base failed and the electricity began arcing holes through the metal base. The product, in the report: Ecosmart brand LED Bulb . Sold at Home Depot sku 1006777824 model 11FFA1960WESD03. 4 pack A19 bulb type. 60 watt equivalent. 840 lumens, daylight (5000k temperature).
Ecosmart brand 60 watt Equivalent A19 LED bulb: Just replaced one of these last night. Woke up this morning and found the globe had broke loose from the base and dropped into the bathroom sink and shattered sharp pieces everywhere! This was the daylight /5000k temperature/ 840 lumens bulb. I checked the box (4pack A19) and another bulb had the globe broke loose from the base also. I had just purchased these at Home Depot. The globe seems to be a type of glass versus older ones I have that seem to have more of a plastic feel. If you screw these into a fixture hanging straight down you risk the chance of the globe failing and dropping and shattering. This is a hazard to anyone, especially kids, pets and the elderly. This occurred with the light off overnight. I looked at the reviews on these bulbs. If you click on the one star reviews there are quite a few instances of the bulbs shattering.

No one hurt Made Oct 24, 2023, sent to the company Nov 1, 2023, published by CPSC Nov 16, 2023
The product, in the report: Product is described in the Event section above.
I purchased an EcoSmart four-bulb pack (100W equivalent using 14 watts - Model #11A19100WESD003) and installed the light in a 100-watt rated light in a guest bedroom in our house. The light was not turned on until we had guests. Within a few minutes of our guests turning the light on, they noticed a strong electrical burning smell. We searched the room for the cause of the smell and found the EcoSmart light was the source. We unplugged the light and found the light bulb very hot to the touch. Once the bulb had cooled down, we removed it and observed the base had blistered and the plastic bulb had begun to melt.
We tested the light using both an incandescent bulb (100-watt) and another EcoSmart (14-watt) bulb and there were no issues, indicating the first EcoSmart light bulb was defective.
While there we no injuries from this event, we were fortunate the light was immediately turned off and the bulb removed before a potential fire occurred.
I tried to contact Home Depot to let them know of the issue with this product, but my attempts to identify a contact point at Home Depot’s Atlanta headquarters was not successful; I was referred back to the local store and was not confident the store would elevate this problem to the appropriate personnel.

The product, in the report: EcoSmart 12watt LED reflector bulb (purchased at Home Depot) 2-1/2” width of widest diameter, 3/3/4” length of full bulb (including base)
Ecosmart 12watt model 1003033702 began to smoke while we were home. Able to turn off power in 20 seconds.
I am in a senior adult community, in a single building with 8 attached units. If this resulted in a fire - there would have been great harm. The only reason no harm came was because I was home and could respond to the smoke.

The product, in the report: Model PAR20 120-Volt LED Bulb - EcoSmart Bulb
Model PAR20 120-Volt LED Bulb caught fire and sparked embers from the cieling in my daughters playroom. This is one of four lights in that room. Fortuntely, the can that was installed is correctly housed with a fire proof container, and so the fire extinguished itself but fried the bulb and the fixture. Embers fell to the floor and burned the carpet.
I called an electrician who arrived on seen and determined that the bulb was the issue. He did some investigation and found that this type of bulb was recalled, however, I was never notfied. He also immediately recommended that I remove all of these bulbs from my house (15!), which leaves us with no light until this is remedied. Fortunately my daughter was not playing beneath it when it happened, and also that our can had a fire proof lining.

No one hurt Made Jan 10, 2020, sent to the company Feb 13, 2020, published by CPSC Feb 28, 2020
The product, in the report: It is an LED light bulb. The interior element has 2 or 3 lighting fingers. The exterior of the light is glass like and it is attached to the metal base. A photo would be worth a 1,000 words. It is bulb like with narrower metal base which is threaded so it can screw into a light fixture.
On January 9, 2020 a LED bulb replacement for 60W, an 8W bulbs this fixture has 3 bulbs and all had been replaced at the same time, then one bulb did not come on so it was replaced on January 2, 2020. On Jan 9, 2020 when the cleaning lady was dusting a window in the dining area there was an explosion and the glass shield of the bulb fell to the table scaring the cleaning lady. The light was not on at the time. The bulbs were purchased on Jan 2, 2020 at Home Depot the container labeled it Ecosmart soft white 4 pack A19 Dimmable and wet rated, suitable for use in enclosed fixtures. This was not an enclosed fixture. When I was told about the incident I looked at the bulb and the element was still in the fixture just the glass covering was gone. I tried the light and it worked with the other two bulbs. I carefully removed the element and base of the damaged bulb. The cleaning lady had disposed of the glass cover before she told me about it. Later on Jan 9, 2020 I replaced the bulb with another bulb from the same 4pack. It worked so it was turned off and we dined at the table last night with the 3 bulb fixture turned on. When we finished the light was turned off. About two hours later my company asked me if I heard the explosion, I was in another room. I said I heard something but not sure what. I was informed the glass cover over the element of the bulb had fallen to the table and sat there intact but broken off where it attached to the base. Now I was curious if the bulb without the glass cover still worked, it did the same as the first bulb earlier that day. Now we decided we had to do something about since two bulbs had done the same thing without power on at the time. No explanation thought it best to report to somebody you could look into these unusual events.

The product, in the report: CFL bulb
Caller is reporting that he was replacing the bulb because it had blown out and noticed that the end of the casing had melted. He stated that they were fumes that had emitted from the bulb and that it contains mercury. He feels that he may have been exposed to the chemical substances which is a health hazard.
Caller contacted the retailer and notified them of the incident.
Caller is concerned that the light bulb presents both fire and health hazard and would like the agency to investigate the matter.

The product, in the report: EcoSmart 8.5W (60W replacement), 120V, 4 pack, A19, LED Soft White Dimmable Classic Glass Light Bulb.
The LED light bulb in our children’s bedroom ceiling fan started smoking A LOT. I turned off the light switch, which powers the light fixture part of the fan. When I removed the bulb it was hot and there are signs of melting on the end of the light bulb and in the light socket. There was a smokey, chemical, smell throughout the house. The ceiling fan and the other lights on the fan still work, but the fixture is now ruined and the entire fan will need to be replaced. The light fixture part of the ceiling fan is rated for 3 60W bulbs and is on a dimmer switch and the LED light bulbs are dimmable. The other 2 light bulbs in the fixture are a different type of dimmable LED bulbs and still work OK. I do not know the make or model of the ceiling fan. I had bought the LED light bulbs at our local Home Depot not too long ago (I believe within the last 6 months to a year). The burned out LED light bulb info is below:
EcoSmart 8.5W (60W replacement), 120V, 4 pack, A19, LED Soft White Dimmable Classic Glass Light Bulb. SKU#: 1002459588 Model#: B7FA1960WESQD02
I had checked the CPSC website and I do not see any recent recall for this bulb.

The product, in the report: PAR30 LED Flood light
I have several of these light bulbs installed in my kitchen, pointed straight down. This morning I saw that one was at a funny angle. I turned it off, poked it, and noted that it moved easily. I carefully unscrewed it and saw that the lower part of the housing had detached, partially exposing the innards, capacitors, and wires. The portion with the driver circuitry is in one part with the chip on silicon illumination portion is in the other, held together by just wires now. A few pieces of plastic fell out.
It was positioned not directly over a heat source.

The product, in the report: Ecosmart 23 watt bulb.
I was screwing one of the new fluorescent bulbs into a fixture. There was no resistance--it was going in easily, but I heard a crack as the bulb broke and a small splinter went into my finger. Had I met resistance, I might have been grasping it more tightly and would have had a severe laceration. I think these have mercury in them.
There are four loops to the bulb, and I was holding so that there was light pressure on all the loops. Yet the top loop was the one that broke and I was hardly touching that part.

The product, in the report: 60 watt L.E.D. replacement bulb
I installed two Ecosmart 60w replacement LED bulbs in a ceiling fixture on November 11, 2015. According to the packaging, these bulbs are distributed by Home Depot which is where I purchased them.
Today, even though the lights were not on, the glass enclosure spontaneously on the fixture exploded sending shards of glass to the floor. Fortunately, nobody was in the vicinity and therefore there were no injuries.
After cleaning up the mess, I looked over the packaging very carefully and found a notice stating the following: “Not for Use in Totally Enclosed Fixtures.” It is not clear to me that the enclosure that shattered is totally enclosed.
While there was a warning on the product, the fact that it is in such fine print should be a cause for concern. One would think that such an important warning would be displayed in a very visible and noticeable manner.
As a Clinical Engineer, I have dealt with mislabeled and recalled products during the course of my 47 year career. This would not be tolerated if the bulb were a regulated medical device.

(7/8) The retailer was contacted and he was advised that the bulb would be replaced. However, he feels that this is a safety issue that could have caused injuries. The warning on the box stated that the bulb produces a lot of heat and could lead explosion.

The product, in the report: A 60 watt EcoSmart light bulb that came from a package of four.
Below is the verbiage from the email I sent the company yesterday:
Yesterday 2/10/15; approx 1:00PM EST New lamp shades brought home and put in place in first fixture; no problem (see page 2 pic).
Second shade put in place. Installed EcoSmart bulb; turned switch on to test = INSTANT POP AND FIRE!!! Before fire could spread; unplugged and put fire out. The entire lamp is now a total loss (see attached pics). FORTUNATELY MY HOUSE IS NOT!!! There is one bulb left from package (see pic). Knowing we have another one is our house that was from this package and not sure which of the light fixtures has this and now could be another possible fire hazard is very disconcerting! We do know where the one in our bedroom is recently; replaced and we will get rid of it!!
We will now have to replace both lamps.
I HAD A FLAMING FIRE IN MY HOUSE DUE TO A FAULTY ECOSMART BULB!!!! (See Page 1) Is there a recall or safety bulletin out there that the public needs to be aware of???

ECOSMART Incandescent Soft Wight light bulb exploded. The 120 volt 29 watt 2810 k light size A19 lightbulb was in a light fixture over a vanity sink. The bulb burst after it had been on less than 30 minutes. When it burst, it sprayed glass shards in an approximate 4-5 foot radius. Had anyone been standing under the light by the sink at the time it burst, they may have been blinded by the flying glass shards. Only the A19 base and filament remained in the fixture’s socket after the bulb exploded. The light fixture the bulb was in, is a 4-socket fixture with each socket rated up to 100 watts. After the fact inspection of the bulb packaging shows a caution stating it “could unexpectedly shatter” and cause personal injury or fire due to “particles of extremely hot glass.”

The product, in the report: 14w Halogen Bulb
The consumer stated that she was outside of her room when she smelled an odor similar to “burning gas”. The consumer stated that she inspected her house to locate the source of the smell. The consumer entered her room and noticed that the light fixture on the ceiling was on fire, even though the light switch was off.
The consumer immediately evacuated her house and contacted the fire department. The firefighters arrived approximately 5 minutes after. They extinguished the fire and inspected the electrical wiring and gas pipes for the home. The fire department determined that the source of the fire from the light bulb capacitor malfunctioned, setting the base of the bulb and the ceiling on fire. They advised the consumer to remove and dispose of the similar type of bulbs and replace them with LED light bulbs. The consumer estimates $2,000 worth of property damages.
2/8/14- The consumer contacted the retailer. The retailer offered a full refund if the consumer could present a receipt of purchase.
The consumer thinks that this product poses a safety hazard to consumers.

The product, in the report: The bulb itself was a 14W CFL Lamp, info below.
We have a tabletop lamp next to our bed (3-way fixture from Target) and had a 14W CFL bulb installed. The bulb was only in about 2 weeks. The lamp was on for about 3 hours last night, and when we reached in to turn it off it made a hissing sound then fire came out from the socket base, with flames scorching the inside of the lamp shade and extending about 2-3 inches about the shade’s top (about 10” above the socket). It lasted maybe 4-5 seconds and was then out. Fortunately, nothing other than the lamp and shade were damaged. I have also opened an inquiry with UL and have turned the lamp and the bulb over to their investigators at their Northbrook, IL, headquarters.

He contacted the manufacturer who advised him that the bulbs are created so that fire could not occur. He has stated that he seriously doubts this because there was soot all over the end of the light bulb and it became hot enough to melt the contacts. Caller is very qualified to make this statement and to perform this process due to his being an Biomedical Electronic Technician at *** and one of his duties was being responsible for the electric safety of the hospital.
