  1. Hurt, no treatment

The product, in the report: Buyers Choice Compact Flourescent Bulbs 1600 lumens, 23 watt, 8000 hours

How safe are Buyers Choice Compact Fluorescent Bulbs from Menards? 1600 lumens, 23 watt, 8000 hours. The bulb started going off and on, then started smoking, went out, started smoking more. I turned it off, the smell was horrible. The white base area was very hot, to hot to touch and remove, it hurt my fingers. I was concerned about it starting a fire. I had to let it cool so I could remove it from the fixture. The white rubber or whatever it is on one side of where the glass part comes out of the base was black, melted and bubbled. The base itself was still quite hot after ten or fifteen minutes. Would it have started on fire with flames I do not know (where there is smoke there is fire), but I am glad I was present to turn it off so it did not have a chance to flame outwardly. I repeat, it was very, very hot and produced lots of horribly stinky smoke. I have more of this type of bulbs. Should I be worried about using them or having this type of bulb on when I am not in the same room with them? Please feel free to contact me. [REDACTED]
