Hurt, no treatment Made Mar 20, 2013, sent to the company Mar 28, 2013, published by CPSC Apr 11, 2013
The product, in the report: “Bright Green” brand 13W spiral flourescent CFL bulb, code BPESL 13T/2/SAFE/BG 13W 120VAC 60HZ 200mA UL Listed 56LJ UL#E170906
After perhaps 5 hours of use, compact flourescent bulb (CFL) failed, emitting a POP sound and a shower of sparks over about a 2 foot radius. Sparks either came from vent holes in bulb ceramic base, or from where bulb glass enters ceramic base. Glass tube did NOT break and appears normal, but there are scorch marks at two opposite sides of the bulb ceramic base - looks like heat/sparks came out where glass tube enters base.
Bulb was installed in inverted position in an overhead 4-1/2 inch diameter spotlight fixture - looks same as common track lights but wall-mounted. Similar to [REDACTED] found on Amazon.com, but black, and brand unknown.
Had I not been at desk below light to ensure sparks did not cause fire, I believe they could have had potential to ignite easily ignited items such as tissue, liquor, or combustible fabric.
Shower of sparks caused very minor small spot burns on my arm and scalp - required no treatment.
