I was using the step stool to reach the top shelf in my closet to switch my summer and winter shoe boxes. I was alone and my husband was working. After a few minutes to stool cracked and tilted me sideways, I tried to catch myself by trying to grab the shelf or clothing rod but I was not quick enough. I hit the floor which is carpeted but I remember falling and trying to land on my bottom or brace my arms as my back has many issues between the Degenerative Disc Disease and the Fibromyalgia. I take medication daily for these conditions and have been for years. I know it was not the medication side effects as they do not have any adverse effects I am able to drive, walk, swim, etc.. When I heard the snap of plastic breaking this was when the stool cracked under the step at the legs and shifted me on an angle it all happened so quickly. I was ok that night but the next morning I was hurting in my lower back which is not common because my condition is up in my c discs, my neck and shoulders. I rested a few days staying on the couch and in bed, thankfully I have medication so I took the anti-inflammatory and the muscle relaxers and after a few days of rest and medication the pain subsided it was my usual pain which I am used to but now over the past weeks I notice my lower back starts to hurt if I am in one position for a long period of time so I have no clue if it agitated it or caused any additional damage? I am disabled collecting SSDI for my medical conditions and have been since 2010. I did not go to doctor he just called in a script for [REDACTED] for day time as I take a [REDACTED] at bedtime to help me sleep without pain. In addition, I take [REDACTED] daily for anti-inflammatory and pain. I also take every 4-6 hours as needed for break through pain [REDACTED]. So I would say yes I did hurt myself but I also took three days to rest and feel better. I have the stool here and was not aware of the recall or else I would never have used it, obviously.

My name is [REDACTED] and I have purchased a 3576 foldable stool at Marshall’s in 2011. I was standing on the stool trying to rearrange my handbags at the top of my closet and the stool shattered into pieces. My ankle went thru the stool and cut my ankle up. I was trying to brace myself from falling and I grabbed onto the wall rack. I pulled the rack down and I hurt my back. The stool says it holds 300 lbs. and I am not 300 lbs. I am currently being treated for my back and I will make another appointment for my ankle because it hurts even when I wear a certain type of shoe. We have a Kennedy folding step stool 13” grey. Our neighbor who is about 250 pounds sat on it and the leg broke off. About 2 inches of the leg broke off, causing the stool to be imbalanced and knocking her off.

Monday, May 21, 2012 caller’s 3 yr old son was standing on step stool to wash his hands when the stool gave way and broke. The three yr olds left foot became entrapped in the broken stool.
The caller took him to the pediatrician then to (child’s South Jersey Radiology Associates where it was verified that it was broken. The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia put a cast on child’s foot which will remain on for four weeks. Caller has not contacted the manufacturer but does intend to contact them.

Shortly after I purchased the Kennedy 13-inch step stool, I sat on it to groom my dog and the leg connections started popping loose. As it was unusable after that, I threw it away. Now I just received a notice that the stools have been recalled, so I thought I would report mine also since I now have an opportunity to make a difference. Purchased July, 2010.

The product, in the report: 9 inch step stools
I purchased the recalled Kennedy International step stools in a pack of two at TJMaxx. I have both the 9 and the 13 inch stools. I have had the stools for about 2 years. I used them for reaching in tall kitchen cabinets and my 4 year old used the 9 inch stool to reach the bathroom sink. After about 1 year of use, the 13 inch stool broke at the foldable handle and came apart at the “folding seam” while I was standing on to reach something. I was able to catch myself and only obtained a cut on my ankle (other than the shock!). Only a few months later, my son (who only weighs 35 lbs.) fell through the same spot on the 9 inch stool while brushing his teeth. He busted his lip on the counter top during the fall. I have not used the stools since and am not surprised at this recall. I just assumed that I bought a cheap product and learned my lesson about plastic folding stools!
