  1. No one hurt

Made Aug 21, 2020, sent to the company Oct 5, 2020, published by CPSC Nov 10, 2020

The product, in the report: Vero Beach carpet

The consumer purchased carpet in 5/2019, but it was defective. She ordered a replacement carpet in 2019, but it never shipped. The carpet being reported, was delivered 11/8/2019. The consumer contacted the dealer about staining concerns and the flattening out of the carpet.

There is fuzzing on the nose of the carpet. The carpet has flattened down on the stair portion. Other locations of the carpet in the home, have also flattened out.

(5/7/2020) One technician from the dealer came out, inspected the carpet and filed a complain

(5/21/2020) A dealer’s technician came out and looked at the carpet. Sometime later, the dealer filed a report with the carpet manufacturer.

(7/2020) The carpet manufacturer sent an independent technician ([REDACTED], with [REDACTED]) came out to examine the carpet.

The carpet measured between 4.0 - 3.0. The parts that walked on, were lower than the rest of the carpet. [REDACTED] told the consumer that this was within the approved variance for the use of carpet.

Later, the consumer’s claim was denied.

(approx. 7/21/2020) The consumer was walking down the stairs, when she slip and fell. She was holding the stair’s handrail at the time, but the smoothness of the carpet caused/contributed to the problem. She caught herself, but fell down 3 - 4 steps, on her bottom. She did not get injured.

The consumer has spoken with the dealer’s owner, [REDACTED NAME]. Dealer address: Molyneaux Tile & Carpet, 10 Plumb St., Verona, PA , 15147, Tel: 412-793-6100

The consumer is 88 years old and her husband is 93, so they are even more concerned about falling down the carpeted stairs

The carpet was installed in November 2019. However, the house was unoccupied from January 1, 2020 to April 1, 2020. Two occupants in the house with no pets.

The house is 2 stories with 12 steps connecting the 1st and 2nd floors. As the bedroom main bath and TV/craft room are on the second floor. On average, each of us will make 7-8 trips per day from 1st to 2nd floor. Carpet continues to flatten thus becoming smooth and creating an even more of a safety hazard. Each step is damaged.
