  1. No one hurt

Made Oct 5, 2026, sent to the company Oct 19, 2026, published by CPSC Nov 2, 2026

The product, in the report: TAILI Grab Bars for Bathtubs and Showers, 2-pack, suction-cup grab bar, grey, model G9, 16.8 inches long. Heavy duty removable bathroom safety bar that attaches to tile walls with suction cups and a locking lever. Marketed for elderly fall prevention, advertised as supporting up to 240 lbs per bar. Purchased on Amazon.com, [REDACTED], July 18, 2026.

On September 30, 2026, during a routine check of a TAILI suction-cup grab bar, 2-pack, Grey G9, purchased on Amazon, Order [REDACTED], July 18, 2026, price 35.99 dollars, installed in my home bathroom, I discovered that the metal hinge pin securing the suction-cup locking lever had come loose, and the bar was no longer firmly attached to the tiled wall. I immediately removed both grab bars before anyone used them. No fall or injury occurred in my household. This is a near-miss involving a product marketed for elderly fall prevention, advertised as supporting up to 240 lbs per bar, while the intended user weighs under 150 lbs. The failure mode, the plastic locking piece breaking and the metal pin coming loose, causing the bar to detach without warning, is documented in numerous verified-purchase reviews on the Amazon product page, 1,343 one-star reviews, about 13 percent of all ratings, including reports of actual falls and injuries. For example, a September 3, 2026 review states the reviewer fell in the shower and hurt her back and cut her arm. In review responses, the seller acknowledged a continuing issue with the product. I reported the defect to Amazon customer service on October 1, 2026. The agent filed a product safety report, issued a full refund, promised the product would be removed that same night and that similar products would be safety-checked, then retracted the removal promise in the same chat. As of October 5, 2026, the product remains on sale. In a follow-up chat on October 5, an Amazon supervisor stated the investigation takes 2 weeks to 30 business days, did not answer whether the product will remain on sale during the investigation, provided no case number, and closed the chat before my questions were answered.
