The product, in the report: Hot tub handrail As to the handrail, is was made by S. R. Smith, model 102B.
I am a lawyer and represent a middle-aged woman whose upper arm was entrapped by the suction of a hotel’s hot tub skimmer. After 30 seconds or so of suction entrapment, my client was able to pull her arm free. She then tried to use the hot tub’s handrail to help her get out of the hot tub, but the handrail swung like a gate, causing her to lose her balance and fall against the hot tub’s deck. The fall broke her humerus and tore her rotator cuff. Once back in the hot tub, her upper arm was entrapped in the hot tub’s skimmer once again. She managed to break free from the skimmer’s suction, get out of the hot tub, and return to her hotel room. The handrail swung like a gate because of a broken weld intended to hold the handrail to a vertical metal post beneath it. The vertical metal post was imbedded in the deck of the hot tub.
