  1. Hurt, no treatment

Made Jul 4, 2023, sent to the company Jul 10, 2023, published by CPSC Jul 24, 2023

The product, in the report: Suction cup grab bar, for getting in and out of the shower, bath tub.

I purchased a Carax ultra grip grab bar, from Amazon, using my health savings account, as I am disabled and needed a better way to get out of my bathtub. I can stand and walk, but I needed something to help me keep my balance, especially in case I have a syncope event getting out of the tub. I have a washing machine right next to my bathtub, and the device would not stick to my shower wall, so I placed it on the was machine, just to help me balance as I get out of the tub. My home is only 400 ft.², my bathroom is tiny. My toilet is on the other side of my bathtub. I do have the use of those two things to help, but they’re a bit slippery, and awkward for my hands or bending over. I want to point out that the indicators were still green before they came off, they turn red after it comes completely off. any time I checked it the indicators were still green, changing to red as they popped off the washing machine. This product is advertised as safe, easy to install, and can hold up to 300 pounds. It makes big claims about how strong it suction cups are, however I fell back two times, when it disconnected from the metal surface I attached it to, Causing me to fall back onto my toilet, exacerbating my chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and a third time it slipped off and I almost went face first into my bathroom counter/sink. This thing held on for a good two weeks without any problems, then it started falling off on its own, and I thought that maybe I didn’t put it on right. I kept putting it back on, ensuring I was following the directions fully, but unfortunately it would randomly fall off as I was using it. I had to fight with Amazon to get a refund, and I am concerned the other people will be put at serious risk with this product. My chiropractor even agreed that those kinds of things should never be sold, he does not like those, and it’s not the first time he’s heard horror stories about those devices. I’ve had other professionals agree. *It happened on three occasions but this form will only accept one, so I stated the most recent.
