No one hurt Made Jun 24, 2024, sent to the company Jun 28, 2024, published by CPSC Jul 15, 2024
The product, in the report: Vigo Pirouette 36 X 42 X 72 Frameless Pivot Shower Door in chrome with clear glass and shower bar
Vigo Industries frameless shower door shattered four years after installation by a professional Home Depot installer. We heard two of what sounded like explosions. We found our shower panel exploded and the door came off the hinges and fell into the shower. If anyone was in there they could have been seriously injured. I have read 500 people a year are injured by these types of doors shattering unexpectedly. This needs to be investigated. The Vigo company probably would have replaced the door but I would never have one again. They refused a suggested compensation of $300 saying they only replaced parts.

First aid Made Apr 13, 2015, sent to the company Apr 21, 2015, published by CPSC May 12, 2015
The product, in the report: Shower glass door
Glass Shower Panel exploded into shards while two installers were holding panel. Panel was supported and not in stress or torqued. It is unknown why glass shower panel spontaneously exploded. Both installers were injured with multiple cuts on arms. Home first aid administered although I recommended they see a doctor. Glass enclosure is a Vigo VG601132W purchased from Faucet Direct. I called [REDACTED] at Facet Direct, 1-800-375-3403 ext 4327. [REDACTED] said he never heard of this happening and told me to call Vigo. I spoke with [REDACTED] at Vigo, 1-866-591-7792. [REDACTED] said it was the installers fault and they must have had weight on it. Therefore, I am responsible for replacement. Additionally, [REDACTED] said the glass is designed to break apart like auto glass. I said auto glass breaks into rounded pieces not sharp shards.
After reading about other incidents of glass shower doors exploding, I do not want this product in my house. The explosion was spontaneous and came without warning. I will contact Faucet Direct and see if I can get my money back. This is a product that should be removed from the market and I am thankful the injures were not life threatening or caused permanent disfigurement. The shards flew 7 feet and could have easily have cut eyes or an artery.

Emergency room Made Sep 11, 2014, sent to the company Sep 19, 2014, published by CPSC Oct 3, 2014
The product, in the report: Vigo Neo Angle glass enclosure 45 5/8 in. x 73 in. Frameless Neo-Angle Shower Enclosure in Chrome with Clear Glass
Was installing Tempered Glass enclosured for my shower. When holding the glass panel with my father up in the air, the glass “exploded”, nothing hit the glass, it was not dropped. It just suddenly exploded sending glass everywhere. my father got minor scratches and tiny glass everywhere including his hair ect. I suffered 6 lacerations. 2 to my left foot, 1 to my right forwarm, 1 behind my right shoulder. in total i received 16 stiches. There was absolutely no reason for this glass to explode the way it did. I have a 11 month old baby in the house and this is in no way safe. im still finding glass days after. 2 days later i found aglass splinter on the side of my foot.
