The product, in the report: 60” W x 72” H Shower Door, Frameless Sliding Glass Shower Door with 5/16”(8mm) Clear SGCC Tempered Glass, Bathroom Doors for Walk in Shower Silent Soft-Close Design, Silver
I purchased the UCALAFEE tempered glass shower door from Amazon, the link to which contains characters not allowed here. The description is as follows: “60” W x 72” H Shower Door, Frameless Sliding Glass Shower Door with 5/16”(8mm) Clear SGCC Tempered Glass, Bathroom Doors for Walk in Shower Silent Soft-Close Design, Silver”
That particular product was selected from among many because the product illustration includes the following statement: ANSI certified Explosion-proof Film. Shortly after completing the installation and confirming that the sliding mechanism worked smoothly, the sliding door EXPLODED with an incredibly loud boom. That glass panel lacked the advertised Explosion-proof Film, resulting in tiny individual glass shards hitting the occupant and landing all over the shower, and the entire bathroom and hallway beyond. Though the occupant in the shower sustained multiple minor cuts, he and the other occupant in the bathroom thankfully avoided getting glass fragments in their eyes.
The glass panel’s behavior upon shattering is attributed to the absence of a retention film, as advertised. Numerous tempered glass shower doors are sold and SGCC-certified as compliant with the appropriate ANSI standards. However, this particular product was purchased specifically because of the noted Explosion-proof certification. This is either a manufacturing defect, perhaps warranting a recall, or a false advertisement.
I reported the issue to Amazon and secured a refund. I also reported the issue with this product and seller on the Amazon website. However, when I review my past orders on the Amazon website and click on this item, it displays a heading saying Purchased another variation 1 time Last purchased Jun 6, 2026
I can find no evidence of my product report on Amazon’s website.
