  1. No one hurt

Made Apr 4, 2015, sent to the company Apr 13, 2015, published by CPSC May 4, 2015

The product, in the report: Frameless shower glass enclosure The shattered glass in 1/2 “ tempered, clear, installed in a frameless design.

At 11:58 AM on 4 April, 2015, we heard an extremely loud crash. I was in the great room, and my wife was nearby in the kitchen. Upon inspection, I saw pieces of broken glass on the carpet of the master bedroom, at which time I discovered the shower glass which was completely shattered. After taking photos, I called my builder, his foreman, and the subcontractor who performed the work, to log the incident.

There were no prior indications of damage to the glass, no one was anywhere near the bathroom, and the shower was last used 19 hours prior to the glass failure. For reference, this is a new home, constructed in 2012, by a top quality builder in central NY. The shattered glass is 1/2 “ tempered, clear.

As seen in the photo, I did not open the shower door, because the rest of the glass will fall. I laid down some thick newspaper to try to prevent additional damage when/if the rest of the glass falls.

This site documents 60 similar incidents in the past 12 months, and it seems that in most cases, the glass manufacturer does not cover their product with warranty.
