No one hurt Made Jan 16, 2013, sent to the company Feb 5, 2013, published by CPSC Feb 27, 2013
The product, in the report: Frameless glass shower enclosure with stationary panel and swinging door
In January of 2012, we purchased a frameless glass shower enclosure by Basco (Roda) through our dealer (Agean Marble). It consists of two pieces: a door and a stationary panel. Each piece mounts to its respective tile wall with two brackets. Additionally the stationary panel mounts to the cast marble floor base with a “U” channel.
On Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 4:15 p.m. I was in the downstairs kitchen, directly beneath the bathroom, when I heard a loud “boom.” I immediately ran upstairs to find the stationary glass shower panel had exploded and glass squares covering the bathroom floor and littering the hallway up to 10 feet away. The force was so concussive that there were glass shards embedded in the painted wall. Also, the broken glass had taken chunks out of our cast marble shower base.
I immediately called Agean but they had already closed for the weekend, so I left a (frantic) message. We took many photos and then proceeded to clean up the huge mess. I was very shook up as I was five minutes away from taking a shower.
When I finally spoke with Agean Mon. morning, they connected me with Basco, who ordered a new glass panel based on the specs they already had on file for us. The installer was there within a week to replace it. They also sent out a contractor to repair the cast marble base. There was no charge to us for any of this work.
Luckily there was no one in the shower at the time as injuries would’ve been serious if there had been.
