The product, in the report: Lowe’s product - Allen and Roth Ellum alcove frameless 48 inch wide and 78 inch high shower nickel door. Clear glass 5/16 inches thick. Satin nickel frame. The Lowe’s receipt says A & R SC SHV 48 8MM S.
I was DIY installing an Allen and Roth Ellum alcove frameless glass shower door when it “exploded”. I started out standing inside the shower on the shower pan and lifted the fixed panel section one inch onto the shower pan rim and had just begun gently pushing it two inches sideways into the wall bracket. The wall side bracket was made of thin metal and very bendable so this required gentle motion. All of a sudden I heard a large explosion noise and glass pieces started projectiling in all directions. Glass pieces bounced around the shower, a number hitting me and many projectiling outside the shower all over the bathroom and >15 feet into the master bedroom. We have a large master bath 12 ft by 18 ft. Glass pieces rolled down my head across my face and thankfully I was wearing safety glasses. The noise was very loud for the short time it took for the door to totally disintegrate. There glass fragments ranged from 10 inches wide to .25 inches wide and there were many scary .25 inch glass needles, a number of which stabbed me. Some of the larger pieces cut me to bleeding. Altogether i received over 30 fine scratches, 6 bleeding cuts, and a number of bruises. I went into shock for a brief period of time trying to make sense if all of this and pick the glass out of and off my skin and hair.
