The product, in the report: Two piece glass bathtub door with one piece being static and the second piece swiveling open and closed. The swiveling part is attached to the static part by two metal hinges.

Two glass bathtub doors were installed around 4 years ago by a licensed contractor. The home was left vacant for six or so months and upon arrival the moving part of the two panel tub doors was shattered to thousands of pieces all over the floor and the tub. The expensive tub is completely damaged with hundreds of scratches and several chips. The other bathtub door had sagged down to the top of the tub and would not move. Company “Dreamline” was very slow to response and did not offer much to remedy the situation or take responsibility for the unsafe items that they sell.

Product: Dreamline Sapphire 56in x 76in sliding semi frameless shower door (SKU #1006448436). Door literally EXPLODED to our faces!! It was in a vertical position on a towel to protect its bottom, and as we lifted it of the floor there was a huge BANG and it exploded. My friend and I got very lucky only suffering from a lot of minor cuts on our hands. We had to use tweezers to remove all the sharp little pieces of glass from our skin. The explosion sent pieces of glass which got embedded into a drywall!! We had to patch the drywall on a surface of approximately one by two feet. We’re still in shock and do not date to touch the second door!!

I am writing to report a serious incident that happened on 1/12/2025, involving a shower door purchased from your store in Chandler Arizona.
The glass door unexpectedly shattered as my daughter was stepping out of the shower. She sustained multiple injuries, including a deep cut on her left leg that required stitches, as well as wounds on her forehead, lip, hands, and feet. It was heartbreaking for parents to see this happening to the child! Mentally and physically, this 11 years old child is suffering and has to stay home for recovery.We reached out to Lowe’s, but they provided misleading instructions and made extensive efforts to shift the blame. Upon further research, I found that others have reported similar experiences online. To prevent further injuries, especially to children, we kindly request your assistance in addressing this matter.

We have (had) a Dreamline Enigma Air Frameless Sliding Shower door. Upon my husband opening door to exit shower the entire glass door EXPLODED sending glass everywhere! All over! My husband had glass all over him in which cut him all over his body. Our entire family of 6 (2 adults and 4 children) use the shower. Predominantly, my husband and I. The product was being used as such, a shower door. Yes, there were many lacerations caused by the glass exploding and shattering all around and on top of my husband.

Dreamline Prism Shower Kit installed 9/2022. When exiting the shower a bolt popped out of the top hinge. As the shower started to come down the safety glass exploded in all in directions. Bathroom and shower floors were covered in glass. Caused dings in floor, vanity and wall. Multiple cuts on legs, feet and hands. Required ER visit for stitches.

After my husband finished showering, he was using the hand held sprayer to wash off the shower door and it exploded and sent glass shards everywhere, cutting him on his hands and feet. The shower door was a DREAMLINE INFINITY Z purchased through Home Depot and professionally installed 6 years ago. I went back to the product information and found a warning sheet that said incorrect installation could shatter without warning or if improperly handled. There was no activity involved based on the warning sheet that would have caused this. My biggest concern is WHY would a product with these characteristics be allowed given all the dangers involved?

DreamLine shower doors, like all shower doors on the market today, are produced with tempered glass that is in complete compliance with Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards and guidelines. All batches of DreamLine tempered glass are tested at our supplier’s plant, in compliance with industry standards for tempered glass.
Tempered glass, while stronger than annealed glass, is still able to break. The properties that make tempered glass able to sustain a direct hit to the face of a panel, however, make the edges the most vulnerable parts of the panel. The glass is placed under pressure during the tempering process and therefore, when a panel of tempered glass is stressed and fails, it is meant to shatter into thousands of small pieces. This is the inherent safety feature of tempered glass and is meant to cause less serious injury than if the panel broke into large shards.

The Dreamline Infinity-72-inch semi-frameless door top track became faulty. While waiting for a replacement part, the entire door shattered while my husband was using it. We understand that we should not have been using the shower during this time and ordered a replacement door.
During installation yesterday, the new glass door shattered in our handyman’s hands while he was holding the door. Two of these glass frames have shattered in the course of two weeks.

DreamLine recommends professional installation of our products. When a panel fails during the installation process, it can be due to many reasons, including but not limited to bumping an edge, improper handling of the glass, or damage sustained during the shipping process. We note that you received another replacement panel and trust that it was installed successfully.

The product, in the report: Dreamline Enigma 56-60 inch w frameless bypass/sliding polished stainless steel shower door

On January 28,2020, I purchased a Dreamline Enigma frameless sliding shower door from Lowe’s in Leesburg,FL. It was installed by licensed contractors in February 2020. On Saturday, May 23,2020, at approximately 12:30 pm, [REDACTED] finished showering and reached to slide the glass shower door open. Upon touching the handle, the glass shower door exploded covering the bathroom in small glass shards. [REDACTED] only sustained minor cuts to his legs and feet. There was no force used on the door when exiting the shower and have no clue why this happened. The explosion was so powerful it chipped 2 tiles in the shower. These shower doors are extremely dangerous but consumers don’t know the dangers. I have contacted the manufacturer for a replacement door and safety film to cover the glass.

Good Morning, My wife experienced an incident last evening we feel warrants reporting. My wife was showering and upon finishing, she reached for the glass shower door handle to slide it back. As she slid the door back it exploded all over her and the bathroom. Glass flew inside and outside of the shower. Glass and hardware even fell into the toilet bowl.
Injuries sustained included lacerations over her shoulders, breast, hands and feet. Lacerations were superficial and did not require medical attention. Although no medical attention was sought, it is important to note, she was terribly frightened and couldn’t move as she was surrounded by glass.

Shower door exploded during install. It is a stationary and moving 2 part. Door. The stationary section was completely installed. The moving side was installed per instructions. Before attaching towel rack, the door exploded spontaneously. There was no mechanical shock in any way.
Have tried to contact the manufacturer “Dreamline” or Bath Authority in Warminster, PA by both phone and email and cannot get a response. Their number is 866-731=2244, and email is support@bathauthority.com.

The product, in the report: Dreamline Duet 56in. to 60in frameless sliding glass shower doors.

My Dreamline shower door Model # SHDR-126728-01 suddenly exploded this morning Nov. 12, 2018, around 8:30 AM. No one was in the shower at the time when this happened so spontaneously. This is the one door facing the inside of the shower pan. I purchased the doors online from Lowes in April of 2017 and was installed July of 2017. The bathroom is a new build and the doors operated smoothly with no problems. All rubber stoppers were in placed and there is no visible chip on the doors. I have taken photos and videos to show the damage the shattered door caused. As of present, the shower pan is all scratched with the broken pieces of the glass door; some of which is now in the pan drain pipe. Fortunately, no one was in the shower or bathroom at the time. I am now concern that this can happen to the second half of door that is still installed. I contacted the manufacturer, Dreamline, and the company wanted to replace only one door, blaming mishandling of the door which resulted in an unseen fracture that caused it to explode. Definitely , this is not the case with me, or my wife, opening the shower doors aggressively. After further complaining that the second door could also have a defect, they agreed to ship me two glass panels. This does not guarantee that the new doors will not break similarly, and injured myself, or a family member. There should be some kind of a safety film that Dreamline can applied to these doors during manufacturing. I have reached out in an email to them if there is a safety film they can send with the replacement doors.

I have a Dreamline Enigma X glass shower door that has shattered three times in the past year. Each time, the door was being opened or closed normally and just completely shattered. It is not in a frame so when it broke, the glass and track bars came crashing down. While it is safety glass and did break into mostly small cubes, it totally fragmented and small shards went everywhere.
The first time it shattered was just before we purchased the home. The previous owner was injured during the incident. The second time was a few months after we bought the home. No one was injured. The third time, my mom sustained cuts on her hands and forearms severely enough that she had to go to the emergency room.
The first two times, the company replaced the door. I have been unable to get a response from them the third time. I am demanding a refund as opposed to a replacement so that I can purchase a different product, which may be why the company is no longer responding to me. I have photos of the shattered door each time this has happened.

Based on the photos that you provided and having spoken with you about both instances, there were installation errors that contributed to your panel failing. It is unclear if the guide block installation was fixed. The photos that you have provided to the CPSC taken after the recent incident show that the bumper strip was not installed to the door. This is an integral part of the installation and MUST be installed, as stated in the installation manual. Failure to install this piece would be a contributing factor to the panel failing. DreamLine feels that had your door been installed correctly, the panel would not have failed in the way that it did. The product, in the report: Frame-less glass bath/shower door

Purchased a Dreamline Encore glass bath/shower enclosure. While unpacking the item, we noticed one of the glass doors was chipped and it appeared strips of edging had broken away from door. We later learned they were glass shard slivers, but not before my wife received a minor piercing injury. The wound was minor and did not require professional medical treatment.
During our investigation to repair or replace the damaged shower door, we learned the tempered glass door was likely defective and should have shattered, rather than slivered.

In this case, the customer purchased a product from a non-DreamLine retailer that purchases returned items from DreamLine retailers and resells them. While DreamLine’s packaging is extremely rugged, we cannot be held responsible for how the product was handled or stored once it was delivered to the original purchaser. We were not a party to the handling or use after it was delivered to the original purchaser. Photos of the packaging show that this product was not handled with the care that a glass product should be handled with. Third party retailers often purchase items without inspecting and will resell them, again without inspection, without regard to the safety of the end user. It is unfortunate that this individual purchased a damaged product from a third party reseller.

I purchased a DreamLine Essence 56-in to 60-in W Frameless Chrome Sliding Shower Door from Lowes Item #834157 Model # SHDR-6360600-01 to be installed by my contractor. The contractor removed one of the glass doors from the shipping container box and was carrying it to the bathroom where it was to be installed, and the glass door shattered in his hands while he was carrying it. Fortunately, he was not injured as he was wearing protective gloves at the time and the door did not break into sharp shards. It broke into small pieces like safety glass, He did not bump or hit the glass prior to this. My concern is if the door had been installed, this could have happened while someone was in the shower or bath.

Panels that fail during the installation process are usually a result of an edge being bumped or damage to the panel that occurs during the shipping process. It is important that all panels be inspected by the contractor prior to installation. Any panels that have any type of damage to them should be discarded and a new panel supplied by DreamLine. Once a panel is installed successfully, it is very unusual for it to fail after installation.

We have purchased and installed dream line enigma x shower door about two years ago. It is a frameless shower door made by dream line company. Product has been sold by Home Depot. Suddenly yesterday while the maid was cleaning the door with a sponge it exploded with the Big Bang and broke off into million pieces. It has caused some lacerations and contusions to our maid. They were appropriately treated. I am a physician and I have treated the wounds with appropriate care My main concern is getting a temporal class half-inch thick and exploded without any impact. I have contacted the manufacturer and waiting for the response. The injuries could have a serious and could caused irreparable damage to vital structures such as eye. I strongly believe the glass has been made with the pool manufacturing standards. I believe it is a safety concerns for thousands of people installing such shower doors which can cause you irreparable damage. I hope you will take appropriate action including investigation so that such a product is not sold in USA. I have taken several pictures and I will upload them. Purchased Infinity-Z 56 in. to 60 in. x 72 in. Semi-Framed Sliding Shower Door in Brushed Nickel// Door Glass Thickness (in.) 1/4” from Home Depot on July 22, 2017 and picked up the door on August 5th in the morning from home depot. Installed the door frame and non movable glass side on morning of aug 6th. All of it was installed and my son and husband were putting the door that slides in, when the door exploded in their hands. Glass was on top of my cabinets, on top of the door, stuck in the stone tile in the shower, glass behind the door, glass in the bedroom, up on the bed, under the bed, it was even inside the baskets in the bathroom on the shelf. .Husband and son sustained cuts... had to dig glass out of many of the cuts. Did contact Home Depot...insurance claim filed..... waiting to hear from Home Depot’s insurance ( manger told me it was Liberty Mutual).

DreamLine does recommend that our products be installed by professionals due to the size, weight and fragile nature of the product. It has been DreamLine’s experience that when a panel fails during installation, such as it did in your case while your husband and son were completing the installation, the edge of the panel could have been bumped in some way or the panel of glass could have been racked by uneven lifting. DreamLine has replaced the panel and and all damaged parts.

Dreamline tempered glass shower door for Bathroom, Purchased in Dec 2016 from Lowes. Doorwas installed by contractor with new Marble threshold in Jan 2017. On Thursday morning about 5AM a deafining explosion woke me from sleep which I thought was a clap of thunder. I went into the bathroom and there were pieces of glass everywhere. Bath is L shaped and shards of fine pebble and fine glass had even blown into the Master Bedroom and on my dual vanity countertops. My husband who is 78 and hearing impaired did not hear the implosion and was shocked by what he saw as was I. WE HAVE BEEN MARRIED FOR 54 YEARS AND THIS IS OUR 5TH HOME AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS! There should be warning and should not be used in a home especially for the elderly. My home is 9 years old and I replaced the old shower door due to arthritis and my inability to bend and clean the tracks and I was afraid of mold buildup. It took 2 days to clean all the particles and will now cost us to replace and reinstall which on a fixed income is a real hardship.

DreamLine does include a warning page with every shower door that states that homes with small children or elderly people may wish to reconsider having a glass shower door. Your installer should have left these papers with you, along with the manual for the shower door. Without seeing the installation of this Elegance shower door, it is impossible to tell if it was installed properly.

On April 2, 2017, my 17 year old daughter was taking a shower. As she put her hand on the glass tub door and moved it, the shower door exploded and shattered. She was injured by the glass on her leg and foot. The glass tub door was a DreamLine Mirage 56 to 60” tempered glass Tub door item number 544954. The door was purchased at Lowes of New Carrollton, MD on February 13, 2014.

Early last year, I bought a sliding glass door for my bathtub.

In the morning of July 26, 2016, with some exploding sound like pop-corn, one of the glass panel broke and shattered seemingly with no reason. My wife was in the room, and no one was in the bathroom. No external forces. But, the broken glass shattered all over the bathroom.
We were lucky that no one hurts by that, except my wife cut her hands while cleaning.
I don’t know if this is a known issue or how common this is. But I wanted to report this for the safety of others, at least for statistics.
