The product, in the report: Frameless sliding chrome shower door, tub heights door
This is regarding the Aston TDR984.00-60 sliding chrome frameless shower door. It was installed in Nov 2019 in a condominium per instructions by a licensed contractor. It operated without incident until recently.
On June 3 2021, while outside the bathroom, my elderly mother heard a loud bang in her bathroom. She went to the bathroom to find the operating glass panel completely shattered. Glass shards were spread throughout the bathtub and surrounding area. There are scratches on the tub, plumbing fixtures, and tile. The glide rail above and stationary panel is intact and stable. The fact that it is relatively new, that it was not being operated, that there was no temperature variation has us very concerned with the safety of this product. A stress during install would have manifested earlier than 19 months. My elderly mother could have been severely injured had this occurred while she was in the bathroom, or worse yet, in the shower. We are extremely concerned with this issue and are waiting on a response from the manufacturer to understand the root cause of this defect and how they plan to fix it.
