The product, in the report: Alumax 350 series Deluxe Frameless Bypass Bath Enclosures shower door

I was installing new rollers into my Alumax shower door. I removed the first door and installed the rollers. I removed the 2nd door and set it down against the shower stall wall and it shattered, showering my body head to toe with glass bits. I did not set the door down forcefully, just in the normal manner with which one might handle such a door. Of interest, I have had another Alumax shower door, in the same shower, shatter when my cleaning lady closed it. My cleaning lady and I both suffered minor cuts from these instances.

Made Mar 3, 2016, sent to the company Mar 11, 2016, published by CPSC Mar 25, 2016

The product, in the report: Clear sliding glass shower door

I purchased 3 glass shower doors manufactured by Alumax through an authorized dealer/installer. These doors were installed in 3 bathrooms in our home in early 2013. Several months after installation, my 8 year old was getting out of the shower and there was a loud noise, then the shower door shattered all over her. I was in the bathroom and witnessed this happen. She was terrified, and had many small pieces of glass embedded in her skin that we needed to remove. I called the installer who came to take a look. He told me that the shower door had come out of its tracking (????) causing it to fall. He stated that it was an extremely rare event for these doors to fall when I expressed concern about the safety (one quick internet search proves that this is absolutely not a rare event). He supposedly contacted the manufacturer, and then replaced the shower door for us since we were within the 1 year warranty period. Then, in December 2015, our cleaning person was cleaning in one of the other bathrooms. She slid the door to the side to open it, heard a very loud noise and then had the glass door shatter over her. She had to be taken to an urgent care center to have one of the larger pieces of glass removed from her arm. Again, I contacted the installer to come take a look. This time he told me that it appeared the door had slipped from its brackets. He said the manufacturer had changed the installation procedure for theses doors (assuming to make them safer/more secure). After contacting the manufacturer, he told me that because the 1 year warranty period had expired, the manufacturer would not do anything, let alone address the safety of their product. The installer said I could purchase a new shower door and he would install it in the “new” way. So currently I am left with no shower door in one bathroom, and two extremely unsafe shower doors in my children’s bathrooms.

Made Dec 29, 2015, sent to the company Jan 27, 2016, published by CPSC Feb 11, 2016

The product, in the report: frameless glass shower enclosure, tempered 3/8 inch glass

(12/23/2015) The consumer stated that she heard a loud explosion. She checked the entire premises and discovered that one of the frameless doors of her sliding glass shower door had exploded. The last time that someone used the shower was about six months ago because it is in a guest room.

The consumer stated that the explosion happened ten minutes after the heat in the home kicked on from 65 to 70 degrees.

(12/29/2015) The consumer called the manufacturer and left a message.

The product, in the report: I do not have details about the door

I was out of town for a 3 day trip. When I returned home and went into the bathroom to take a shower, I was startled when noticing that the glass in the shower door was shattered. Luckily I had closed the bathroom door before leaving town. Bath, Kitchen, and Tile in Wilm. Delaware remodeled the bathroom about 5 years ago. Kennett Square Glass Co. was responsible for putting the glass in the door. Both companies are refusing to replace the door at no charge because they claim the warranty is for one year. According to the internet and NBC and ABC News, this has happened many times. [REDACTED] even recalled their shower doors.
