I bought the unit new. It had only been run about 12-15 hours when I experienced the first failure of the generator flooding while I was camping on or about June, 15, 2026. On July, 14, 2026, I was testing it at my house trying to figure out what had caused the generator to flood. It had ran for about 20 minutes when it quit running. I found gasoline spilled on the ground and inside the case. The spilled gasoline could have caught fire and burned my house down as I was testing it at the edge of my garage/driveway. If I would have been camping, the generator could have started a forest fire as I typically camp in the forest. The inverter generator is a Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment Model iGen4000c Rev 2, built in August 2024. When I was testing it, I had a small space heater plugged into it as a load so the generator had to create some power (~0.8kW).
(07/27/2026) Over the weekend, I was troubleshooting/testing the generator to determine where the gas was leaking from on the generator. The gas is leaking from the air intake. I took the cover & air intake cover off, and removed the air filter. I ran the generator for about 15 minutes, then shut it off. Once I shut it off, gas started “pouring” out of the air intake.

The product, in the report: Westinghouse 7500 Generator
Hello. this is a written record of a Near Thermal Event PLEASE READ! My generator Westinghouse 7500, is kept in a temperature controlled garage year round and rolled out onto a cement pad partially enclosed out on the attached carport. The unit is well maintained. I had just recently changed oil and spark plug and cleaned air filter. I use good quality gas, stored in doors in approved containers. On this evening I move the unit out of the garage as I have done dozens of times. I connected the 30 amp cord and ground wire and with power feed switch off I turned on the gas and started the unit. It never achieved full motor rpms it only chugged and created an impenetrable cloud of smoke. I could neither get to the remote nor the off switch as the smoke was too toxic. One breath and I would have been done. This went on for about 40 seconds, it seemed longer. The machine was chugging and spewing a cloud of smoke. I had just reached for my fire extinguisher when the engine stopped running. As the smoke cleared I became aware that the unit was sitting in a puddle of oil and gas mixture. Potentially very explosive. A near thermal event as the tech person on the phone at Westinghouse described it. I suspected the carburetor needle valve had stuck open and the piston on the engine emptied the tank of gas into the crank case and flooded the mixture out through the exhaust valve. All this while the engine was still running, granted maybe only at 50 rpm but running none the less. This scenario was also confirmed by you tech department. I have since torn down the carburetor. The rubber point needle valve upon visual inspection has a couple of chunks of rubber missing that would kept the valve from seating. I have not seen a recall for this design flaw. Please be advised that this near thermal event will likely replicate providing danger to your customers. I was fortunate. I have experience being in situations that require level headed, and quick thinking.

The product, in the report: Westinghouse Dual Fuel Generator
I purchased a Westinghouse WGen 12000 generator. I was recently running it to power our home and when I stepped out to turn it off there was gasoline spewing out all over the ground. It appeared to be coming from the fuel pump. It could’ve easily caused property damage or bodily harm. I’ve contacted Westinghouse four times and have received no return calls from their tech support. The last time I called, the customer service rep told me that each time I call my name is put back at the bottom of the pile. I called two days ago and told me to not expect a return call from technical support until two or three weeks.

The product, in the report: Westinghouse 3600 Watt Duel Fuel generator
Hello, my name is [REDACTED], and I live in Houston, TX. Following hurricane Beryl, I used my Westinghouse 3600 DF generator during power outage using gasoline. While the generator was running, I smelled strong gasoline fume and discovered a pin hole leak in the gasoline fuel line. I was able to stop the generator and avoided a fire. I would like to add that this is the second time I used gasoline on my generator. The 1st time was when I did the generator break-in. Six out of seven time I used propane to prevent the carburetor gumming up. I believe the fuel line is made of inferior material, and it broke down on 2nd use. Upon close inspection, beside the pin hole, the fuel line showed sign of heat stress. I believe this is serious fire hazard, and carry potential loss of life or property.

On January 9th 2023 I had to use a Westinghouse generator inverter igen 4500. I had not used this generator since it’s purchase on June 26th 2020. On January 10th 2023 I noticed a large puddle of fuel under the generator and ceased using it. I am glad that I stopped using it because I was fearful that it may have caught fire after I opened up the side panel all of the components including the electrical wires were full of fuel being leaked out of somewhere. I was using it, adult male. No injuries occurred.

The product, in the report: Westinghouse WH2400i inverter generator. Green plastic housing, 120v, 2400 W max.
Fuel tank leak on Westinghouse WH2400i inverter generator. Notes on problem listed below. A fire did not occur, fortunately. I submitted a support request to Westinghouse today with this information and I am awaiting their response.
Notes on fuel leak on Westinghouse WH2400i Generator (inverter style) Dec. 22, 2022 Serial Number: 10240 A061 513042 0056 Purchased Aug. 22, 2016 from Family Farm & Home in Burton, MI Generator usage: Used as residential home backup power when grid power fails. Used 4 times since purchase, each time less than 4 hours. Total runtime < 16 hours. Most recent usage was on Dec. 17, 2022 for about 4 hours. Previous use was about a year prior. After running on Dec. 17, 2022 I let it sit in garage with fuel valve shut off and the fuel fill cap vent closed. It still had about ½ tank of fuel in it. Next day there was a very strong odor of fuel in garage, and fuel had dripped out of bottom of unit onto concrete floor. Set unit outside for a few days and it continued to leak. Exterior plastic housing had become severely deformed and cracked on the air cleaner side of the unit from exposure to the fuel. Carb drain is on the other side of the unit and was not leaking, and neither was the carb itself. Disassembled unit on Dec. 22, 2022 and found that the source of the leak is the fuel tank itself. Fuel leak is in the side of the tank (on the air cleaner side of the unit) at the parting line of the blow molding tool. Fuel was still weeping out of the leak and wetting the surface of the fuel tank on the side and bottom. I have pictures and a video of the fuel weeping out of the tank at the parting line seam. Fuel was covering the inverter electronics and was puddling in the crevices of the plastic bottom housing piece. Fuel had also soaked the foam noise insulation material that was in contact with the exterior plastic housing and the side of the fuel tank in the area of the leak. Inner surface of exterior plastic housing also was wetted with fuel. This explains the exterior housing deformation. Also noticed that there are 2 plastic locating pins that are part of the bottom of the fuel tank which fit into rubber grommets in the top of the air cleaner surface. Both of these pins were deformed (bent towards engine), one quite severely. This was not the source of the leak, but is abnormal. This fuel leak is a severe safety hazard!. This generator has been used very little, and always with low load in non-harsh conditions. It should not have this kind of problem! I am requesting that this unit be repaired / replaced at no cost to me.

The product, in the report: Generator
Caller had generator in garage all Summer with no problems at all until she went out to start her car around October 23rd, 2022 and smelled gas.
She drained the little gas that was in it and then placed the unit outside. She researched and found her model number on a recall with release# [REDACTED] but no match with her serial Number.
She tried to contact the firm (MWE Investments) but could not make contact with them although she held for 20 minutes, I called the hotline for the release at 1:07PM heard recording that said, “Your position in the queue is one”. Then every minute until 1:29PM the recording repeated “ We apologize for the delay.” Called four (4) times with similar results.
Contacted Westinghouse via email and was told this unit is not included in the recall despite having the same problems as the recalled units
The caller is asking that her serial number be added to this recall but with help for the remedy.

The product, in the report: Westinghouse generator, model wpro8500, black, 216 lbs, 8500 watts, 27x22x22. Provides off-grid 120v/240v power with low harmonic distortion. Compatible with electronic devices
Westinghouse generator, model wpro8500, has a 50 amp outlet for a n14-50p male plug. However, the generators wheel, below the plug, is not far enough from the plug to permit a generator power cord to seat fully in the plug, leaving the male prong exposed and creates a risk of electric shock. Further, the cord rubs on the wheel. The wheels could be removed, but then the gas tank is no longer level. At over 200#s wheel removal is not a one person job and unlikely for a smaller adult to accomplish. Risk of injury to user.

With a TT-30R RV Ready Outlet, two 20A household outlets, and built-in USB ports, this generator is ideal for recreational activities or as an emergency backup source. It’s engineered for maximum fuel efficiency with variable engine speed to produce only the power you need at any given time, running up to 18 hours on a 3.4-gallon gas tank. As a dual fuel generator, the iGen4500DF operates on gasoline or propane for versatility wherever you are. Color: blue Model iGen4500df UPC 855464003704
The Westinghouse iGen4500df generator we recently bought caught on fire and exploded, igniting its generator shed, as well as destroying a [REDACTED] generator sitting about 6 ft away in seasonal storage. Minor, seemingly non-structural damage was inflicted on a large shed nearby. Additionally, it ignited a section of a tree overhanging the generator by about 50 ft (rough estimate). Loss of property, as well as an explosion that could’ve resulted in severe injury or death, compels me to report this incident. The product was being used in accordance with the instructions and guidelines found in its manual. While battling the flames with fire extinguishers and water, I inhaled fumes from the burning generator, which consisted of plastics, electrical wiring, oil and gas, as well as other substances that pose a health hazard when inhaled. The heat from the explosion was sufficient to melt a tarp 15 feet away, and ignite a section of a tree standing roughly 50 feet over the generator. If I’d been close to the generator during its most intense period of burn, I likely would’ve experienced a life-threatening medical crisis. Besides the inhalation of fumes as mentioned above, no injuries occurred. The serial number of our iGen4500df is different from the serial numbers listed in the September 2020 recall of iGen4500df generators.

It quite literally has been sitting in the same storage position it has been in after previous uses and began to leak gasoline 4 days ago.
Previous products from the iGen4500DF line have ben recalled due to fuel leaks. My product is not on those currently listed for recall. My product was purchased on Amazon on November 30th, 2019.
