The product, in the report: Poulan Pro 6500 Generator

I purchased a Poulan Pro 6500 generator just over a year ago. I purchased it to use during power failures only, as of this date I have not needed to use it. I do start the generator once a month and let it run for about five minutes just as a preventive measure. A few days ago I brought the generator out of my garage for it’s monthly start, when I turned on the gas valve, gas began leaking out of the valve itself at a fairly good rate. I immediately turned the gas valve back off and the leak stopped. I returned the unit to the retailer that I purchased it from for repairs. When they turned the gas valve on, it did not leak. I left the unit with them to check it over. I contacted Husqvarna to see if there was any product recalls in regards to the gas valve, they indicated that there was none just one for the carburetor. In checking on line I have found other Poulan Pro owners with the same problem.

The product, in the report: Poulan Pro PPG 6000

When I went out to start my generator, I noticed that the gas had leaked for the fuel shutoff gas housing. I’ve been trying to locate a shutoff valve to replace it due to the storm in the gulf. (Isaac) I won’t be able to use the generator due to the leak from the housing and no one seems to carry the fuel shutoff valve.

The product, in the report: Generator

Consumer stated that she purchased the generator and noticed that it had been recalled, however, the retailer refused to allow her to return the unit stating it was not on recall.

The unit was used for 3 days about a month ago, she was awaken to an overwheming odor of gas, she felt her lips tingling and discovered that the generator was leaking without being in use. The gas was leaking from the carburetor, it was stored in the garage. She had to ventilate the entire house.

12/12/11 Consumer contacted the manufacturer and was advised that they would repair it, consumer declined because the unit is a safety hazard and had been part of Alert #11-717 and should not have been sold.

Consumer feels that this product should be taken off the market.
