The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Northstar 13000 portable generator sold by Northern Tools

Generator gasoline tank leaking. About three weeks in the middle of Florida’s hurricane season it came to mind to look at the generator and perhaps repair or replace the tank so that we can use should we have another extended electrical outage.

Removed tank from its generator mount and inspected the area where the leak was dripping down from which was a mounting port. Did not see any significant cracks or breaks around the port beneath the tank.

Took a flashlight to look at the inside of the tank and discovered that three of four ports have a dome shaped cap on the inside end of the port. The fourth port, the leaking port does not have a cap.

I then decided that the missing cap on the leaking port is causing gasoline to leak out and leak is due to a factory defect in construction and assembly.
