The product, in the report: Portable gasoline generator
Plastic upper bracket of a Honda Generator cart kit failed suddenly while rolling the generator into my shed. Had I been lifting the generator in or out of my truck, it would have been dropped, damaged and likely causing injuries.

The product, in the report: Honda EU2200i 2200-Watt 120-Volt Super Quiet Portable Inverter Generator
Took the generator to its first camping trip and it was the second time I had used it since purchase. First time was during Memorial Day Weekend a few months prior in May 2018. Bkth then and in September, under normal operating conditions I had an issue that I couldn’t understand where gasoline was leaking out from the fuel valve. Both times I didn’t know what the cause was up until I learned of a recall announced yesterday. I’m adding another incident report to it.

No one hurt Made Feb 20, 2019, sent to the company Mar 22, 2019, published by CPSC Apr 5, 2019
The product, in the report: 2018 Honda EU2200i suitcase generator- red and black 2018 Honda EU2200i companion suitcase generator- red and black
I have two Honda EU2200i generators; one is regular and the other is the “companion” model. Both are less than six months old. Both are having serious fuel related issues.
The EU2200i companion was serviced about three weeks ago because it would not start and had what appeared to be gasoline in the oil reservoir. At the time I picked up the generator I told the repair person that I felt Honda did something different and very wrong on the generators because they keep having fuel related issues on these new generators. I have taken in my Honda EU2200i and Honda EU2200i Companion generators several times each because of fuel related problems; the worst one being leaking fuel. We had them sitting in our laundry room and woke in the night to the smell of gasoline, and found them sitting in a puddle of gas! We stopped use and took them in to a different authorized service center and they said nothing looked out of place and they could not replicate the problem. Then we had a repeat over the last few days of leaking fuel again.
On Tues., Jan. 22nd, 2019 I dropped off my EU2200i to the service center because there was fuel POURING into the crankcase, causing the oil sensor to trip. I’m glad that function is working right, but I have no good feeling about the fuel in the oil. The local reseller states a “stop sale” was issued by Honda for the generators due to what appears to be a faulty fuel valve, but refuses to correct my issue. These things are dangerous and I need generators for daily life because I am off-grid in Alaska! Please get these pulled and repaired!? Honda says they are waiting on CPSR to approve the recall and repair plan. PLEASE HELP!?
Incident dates (estimated) as follows:
Jan 4th - fuel not flowing to carb Jan 10th - fuel not shutting off, leaking down breather hose and other unidentifiable places Jan 22nd - service center says nothing wrong but unit is still having fuel related start/run issues Jan 27th - fuel leaked during night with valves off and created gas puddle on laundry room floor Feb 19th - took one generator to repair center due to fuel related issues Feb 20th - took second generator to repair center per Honda warning about bad fuel valves (no TSB or recalls formally submitted yet, and no notifications have been received from Honda for the dangerous fuel valve malfunction(s)).

No one hurt Made Nov 17, 2018, sent to the company Nov 27, 2018, published by CPSC Dec 12, 2018
The product, in the report: 7000 watt gasoline powered generator
On the late evening of October 13, 2018, the lights flickered and then we lost power. I looked outside and saw large flames coming from my Honda generator. I rushed out, grabbed the fire extinguisher from my truck and, luckily, was able to extinguish the fire. The front of the generator, wires and connector leading from the generator to the solar charger/regulator had melted. Needless to say we had no electricity after that.
The generator is rated to provide 7000 watts of electricity with a maximum draw of 30 amps. I later checked the amperage with the TV, washer, and microwave running and it was only 15+ amps.
We have had solar power for the past seven years. The installation was done by licensed electricians and the installation was inspected by the local electrical inspector. Until the 13th, we have had no problems with the solar system or the generator and associated cabling.
