The product, in the report: Aeiusny Portable Generator 288wh
I am a fire investigator for a municipal fire department. We responded to a reported structure fire and found a small fire on top of and behind a cabinet. During the investigation it was determined that the object that was burning was an Aeiusny Portable Generator 288wh. Since all identifying information was destroyed by the fire we identified the object by the home owner telling us what the item was. He also showed us on his Amazon account the item and that he had purchased it in 2019. The item was plugged in to the electric to keep charged but was not in use at the time of the fire. There where no injuries from this fire which occurred at about 2:00 pm because the homeowners were alerted to the fire by the smoke detectors and were able to exit the home.

The product, in the report: Aeiusny Portable Solar Generator 500W
I tried to submit this request through your website but received “An error occurred while processing your request”. Maybe that is for the best. It is easiest for me to simply forward this email with pictures and information. In short: the product was received on 2/5/21, never used, and spontaneously caught fire (while in the original box) the day after. It nearly burnt down the house and almost killed me and my family. Photos are attached. If you want the product for inspection, please let me know and I will ship it to you. [REDACTED]
-------- Original Message -------- Subject:Re: ??:??:??:??:??:Caught fire: Aeiusny Portable Solar Generator 500W Date:15-02-2021 10:53 From: [REDACTED] To: [REDACTED] <customer-service@aeiusny.com> Cc: [REDACTED] No. That is not ok. I do not trust you because you keep changing your story: • You previously said you would refund me if I changed my review. • You then said you would refund my money in a week. • Now you say that you will only refund my money if I ship the units back to you at my expense. It also seems to me the refund will be delayed until after you have inspected the units. Since you keep changing your story, and you have not done anything to help me, I do not believe you. I believe this is the correct and honest thing to do: #1: You refund my money to me. #2: I ship the product that caught fire to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. #3: I do not believe it is correct for me to ship the unit that has not yet caught fire. I believe it is a fire hazard to the shipping companies and their employees. I think it is unethical for me to ship something that I know first hand as dangerous (the unit that caught fire nearly burnt down my home and nearly killed me and my family). I will not knowingly put others at risk. I believe your request is reckless and will put other people at risk. #4: I will take the unit that has not yet caught fire to a recycling center so it will be safely disassembled and disposed of. I look forward to your prompt refund of my money. Thank you. On 14-02-2021 23:21, [REDACTED] wrote: Thank you for your message. The refund is not the review. As you know, we need to check the specific issue for the unit, so we can know it better and then improve it to help customer get a better shopping experience. For the 2 units, would you please kindly help to send them to our US return service address? We will refund you as long as there has tracking number. Is that ok? The most recent Amazon order number is [REDACTED]on February 4, 2021. This is the model that burnt up. I also purchased the same product on March 23, 2019, on Amazon order number: [REDACTED]. I do not feel it is safe to continue to use this and plan on disposing of it. I have attached the picture of the burning unit (yesterday) and the remains (today) plus another of the remains as I was cleaning it all up and putting it back in the box today. I received the [REDACTED] on Feb 4, 2021, and unboxed and inspected it. The box and the product appeared perfect when I received it. I then put it back in the box. About 26 hours later, I heard a series of popping sounds. I went to look and found the house filled with smoke. As I took the box outside, I found the box was on fire. I threw the box into the backyard and the product continued to burn until it was ash. The house still smells of smoke. To summarize: it was never plugged in and never used. It was untouched for 26 hours and then it spontaneously combusted. 6 [REDACTED]c: [REDACTED] On 05-02-2021 22:29, [REDACTED] wrote: Hello Thank you for your message and so sorry for any inconveniences brought to you. It was delivered yesterday. I opened the box yesterday and inspected the outer and inner packaging and know that there was no damage in transit. It was still in the box today when it caught fire. I called Amazon.com and spoke with two representatives. I explained that I have smoke damage in my home. If I hadn’t been home when it occurred, it would have burnt down the house. If it had happened in the evening, it could have killed me and/or my family. Amazon.com had a nice tone of voice but was ultimately disrespectful and very cruel. It was worse than a chat-bot because it was people choosing the responses rather than a computer. They didn’t care and stuck to their script. They thought I was joking and then they said I was being unkind to them and ultimately ended the conversation by making threats to me. This is my second Aeiusny product but I feel a need to rush and replace the first unit as I do not understand how it could be safe. 7 I’m not sure what to do in a situation like this. I can send the pictures to the news or post them on the internet but I’m not sure these are constructive ideas. I have a pile of ash in my backyard. It could have been me. What do you suggest? Hurt, no treatment Made Nov 12, 2020, sent to the company Dec 8, 2020, published by CPSC Dec 22, 2020
The product, in the report: Aeiusny Generator Model UPS-500AD The user manual describes the product as “Aeiusny Uniterrupted Power Supply”. The Amazon description provided earlier in this form included the claim that it was a solar generator. I was using it as a standby UPS for just a modem and router.
I purchased a Aeiusny 288 wh 500 W Emergency power station and UPS powered with lithium ion batteries from Amazon in August of 2019. Aeiusny is a Japanese company with an office in Massachusetts. I used the device in Pennsylvania. It caught fire in my house on the evening of November 9, 2020. I was in on a different floor when the Aieusny UPS/Generator caught on fire so I did not see it initiate. I was fortunate to have just replaced my smoke detectors in my house so they were quick to sound off when the fire ignited and I was fortunate that I had a dry chemical ABC fire extinguisher in the room where I was using the device as a UPS with a light load (modem and router). I was able to temporarily douse the flames on the burning generator with the dry chemical extinguisher and due to ignorance of the reaction that causes lithium batteries to burn, I unplugged the modem and router from the generator and the generator from the AC source and grabbed it by the handle with my bare hand and proceeded to run it out of my house. It flared up again as I approached my patio door and scorched part of the door frame, the glass and burnt some holes in the screen door but I kept running a few more feet and dropped it on my concrete patio and fortunately suffered no burns but I did breath in burning lithium battery and plastic case fumes during this process. I read later that my initial belief that I had permanently doused the lithium battery fire with an ABC extinguisher was wrong and running with it out of my house bare-handed was dangerous since it is almost impossible to stop a lithium battery fire once it begins. Yesterday, as I was verifying that my Amazon review of the generator where I reported the event was posted, I noted that another customer reported a bigger fire event in August of 2020 where an entire room in the customer’s house was burned up and the fire department was called. So, this Japanese company had notice that their generators were unsafe yet I have not seen a recall for them. I am sure that I and this other Amazon reviewer are not the only fires caused by their generator. I am sure they are or at least were using the old unsafe lithium battery technology in their generators that they are selling in the US. Amazon did remove the link to the generator in my account that I purchased in Aug 2019 so there is a possibility that Aieusny switched out the type of lithium batteries they were using to build the generator and assigned a new part number to it but they kept quiet about the danger of the prior version of the generator that they sold in the US because I have not received a recall notice from anyone about the Aieusny generator that I purchased. I have not contacted a doctor yet about possible damage to my lungs from breathing in burnt lithium battery fumes but I am at this point in time planning on it. I can’t definitively state that I have any lung damage from my exposure to the lithium battery smoke. In addition to the photos that I uploaded to this complaint I also have photos of the damage the fire caused to my furniture, drywall and patio door as well as a PDF of the Amazon receipt for this product. Since they are more personal in nature I did not upload them in accordance with the directions for this electronic form.
