Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

The product, in the report: Volante Desktop Office Sit-Stand Workstation

I incurred a back injury on 07/25/19 as the result of a faulty repair performed on my Volante Sit-Stand Workstation. The repair was coordinated after I received notice of a *recall due to faulty cylinders, along with instructions for scheduling repair from a qualified technician.

My workstation was working fine before the repair. I was not present when the repair was completed. I returned to my desk to find a note from the technician stating “Desktop Sit-Stand Workstation repair is complete. Your desk has been certified and is ready to use.” The technician had left my desk in an elevated standing position. When I attempted to lower the desk by releasing the side handles, it was obvious that there was no support as it started to fall and, on instinct, I attempted to stop or slow the fall with my hands on the side handles. Due to the added weight of dual monitors, a docking station, and laptop, the effort caused me to sustain a back injury which has worsened with each day - and it has been 13 painful days since the writing of this report. I had a coworker from the Facilities department present to witness this injury.

Part of the reason for the growing pain is that I have a serious and chronic back issue which requires me to stand for most of the day. I have not been able to transition between standing and sitting for over a week now, which is exacerbating my back pain and interrupting my work.

I called the technician the following day and went into voicemail to reschedule her return. Her responding voicemail was rather rude. I called Knape & Vogt directly to register a complaint and ask for a different technician, and was told to call back the following Monday. I had to call back the followings week for a status update and just yesterday, 08/07/19, received this email:

“Hello [REDACTED], We have attached a Multiple Unit Spreadsheet, if you could fill out form and return to sit-stand@kv.com at your earliest convenience, we can work as quickly as possible to complete the repair for you. We only ask to gather the correct information for the repair kit. Thank you for your time and patience.”

I am submitting this complaint to register Knape & Vogt’s negligence and inadequacy.
