The product, in the report: Gabriella double dresser by Universal SmartStuff
I purchased the Gabriella double dresser made by Universal SmartStuff. This is a children’s furniture line. The dresser fell forward when the drawers were opened. It fell on my husband and thankfully not my 2 yr. old who was standing nearby. We tested it with contents inside and without and it fell both ways. According to ASTM standards a dresser should be able to stand up with all drawers open without it falling over. The manufacturer recommended affixing the tip restraint hardware. I was told by someone who sits on the ASTM board that the tip restraint hardware is a last step safety measure but should not be a first solution. The dresser should be able to stand on it’s own however it is recommended that tip restraint hardware be affixed to all children’s furniture to prevent it from falling in the event a child tries to climb on it. Although very beautiful this dresser is very dangerous. We were able to obtain a full refund from the retailer.
