Emergency room Made Aug 1, 2025, sent to the company Aug 11, 2025, published by CPSC Aug 25, 2025
The product, in the report: Large Hutch-unit for a bedroom set. Manufactured in 2003 by Thornwood Manufacturing Company
Purchased a bedroom set with a hutch in 2003 at Raymour and Flannigan. The unit was manufactured by Thornwood Manufacturing Company of Phoenix AZ. While moving the unit down a set of stairs, the mirror abruptly came out of the unit hitting a man in the eye and permanently blinding him. Upon investigation we found that the mirror had NEVER been glued or attached to the unit in any way. No steps were taken by the manufacturer to secure the mirror or identify the hazard. Additionally, there are no warnings or indications that the mirror was loose or could freely become detached from the unit. We feel this was a fatal flaw in the design of the unit.
