The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Feb 21, 2026, sent to the company Feb 25, 2026, published by CPSC Mar 11, 2026

A few years ago, we bought a desk on Amazon, this one: https://www.amazon.com/Seville-Classics-OFF65873-Tempered-Electric/dp/B07MT7GQWF/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8&th=1 It served us well, but just a week ago, it moved on its own, made a ‘clunk’ noise, then filled the air with a burning smell.

We contacted the manufacturer, who basically told us, “tough, it’s out of warranty, and discontinued”.

We emphatically told them that was not the point. The desk most likely would have burned our home down had we not been present. AND, by looking at the reviews on Amazon, we are not the only ones to have experienced this.

This company needs to stand up and take responsibility for producing a product that could result in death. They don’t have any concern about this.

Details: Desk malfunctioned and started burning Standup electric desk from Seville Classics Not in use when the malfunction occurred Desk was holding two laptops and a book No injuries, but could have been very ugly had this happened when we were not nearby

The product, in the report: Seville Classics AIRLIFT S3 ELECTRIC HEIGHT ADJUSTABLE STANDING DESK Model ZZQ-LZ04-TB-J3C-585-650

I have a Seville Classics S3 motorized standing desk. While raising the desk, the power cord wedged under the leg of it, causing it to rip the power cord out of the adapter attached to the desk. When it ripped out, it fell to the ground with 110v live power exposed at the metal prongs. If it happened to land on my bare skin (legs or feet) it would have electrocuted me with 110v. This really should be designed with either a safe disconnect at the plug, or moving the 18v transformer to the floor.
