No one hurt Made Aug 4, 2023, sent to the company Aug 9, 2023, published by CPSC Aug 23, 2023
The product, in the report: https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2019/Office-Depot-Recalls-Desks-Due-To-Shock-Hazard-Recall-Alert We confirmed the label under the desk matches the recall.
The electrical control box on a CPSC recalled product of a stand up office desk melted and began to burn. The desk has been used regularly for five years without incident. a phone charger was plugged into a USB charger in the control box and within a few minutes a very strong odor of burning occurred. Product was unplugged. We removed the electrical box from the table, which is secured with common screws, and noticed the melted plastic. The odor of melted plastic/burning remained for hours in the house. After the incident we discovered a recall, but the recall doesn’t mention a fire hazard. If someone was not present at the time it appears likely to have continued burning and caused a fire.
THE CPSC RECALL does not mention a fire hazard, only a shock hazard.

The product, in the report: Realspace Magellan Collection Manager Desk Desk for home office. Roughly 6’ x 2’. Dark cherry color. Made of a composite wood product similar to MDF. Veneer is wood grain printed on paper.
The realspace Magellan collection manager desk sold by Office Depot/office max is defective and unsafe. The desk is covered in a paper veneer that peels from normal use and contact with skin moisture. The wet paper on the desktop provides a breeding ground for bacteria. After repeated contact with the desktop, i have developed a rash. This product should be recalled
