The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: IKEA hemnes 8 drawer dresser

We had an IKEA hemnes 8 drawer gifted to us. We have had the dresser for several months. On Nov 11, 2025, my three year old son was walking by and the dresser fell forward onto the ground. No drawers were open. We are so lucky because he was a few inches away. He could have easily been killed. The IKEA hemnes 8 drawer should absolutely be recalled. I told ikea customer service; and they told me its not currently in the recall list and policy is to put brackets to secure to the wall. The way the dresser fell it would have pulled any brackets out of the wall. This dresser is unsafe and has already killed one little boy in Florida according to the news. Action is needed from congress because ikea is not doing the right thing in recalling these.

The product, in the report: Ikea Hemnes 6-drawer dresser

In June 2014, the Ikea Hemnes 6-drawer dresser tipped over ontop of our 3 1/2 year old daughter. She was opening and closing the drawers and as she opened the large top drawer the dresser tipped and fell on top of her. Luckily the bottom drawers were closed so it provided a small space for her so the dresser didn’t pin her beneath. She received a bruise and scrape on her cheek from the drawer pull as it fell onto her. My husband was in the same room and pulled it off of her immediately. At the time, we didn’t think anything of this incident and made sure to secure it to the wall after that. However, now that we’ve become more aware of the Ikea recall we realized that this incident was related to our experience.

The product, in the report: Ikea Hemnes Dresser

We purchased the Ikea Hemnes dresser in gray brown. We put it together this weekend and left the windows open to air out the room after we noticed a strong smell associated with it. The smell dissipates if we leave the windows open, but it is December so that is not possible. We are using the dresser in our 19 month old’s room, and he has not slept well in the room since we put the dresser in there because the fumes are so strong. This morning, he woke up with a bloody nose. I love the dresser but am worried about the safety for my son.
