  1. No one hurt

Made Feb 5, 2026, sent to the company Feb 10, 2026, published by CPSC Feb 25, 2026

The product, in the report: IKEA desk with glass top

IKEAs Galant desk model 18222 with glass top was standing in my daughters bedroom when the top just exploded. Luckily, my daughter was still sleeping in her bed and miraculously was not hurt. Shards of glass were all over. The sound woke up everyone in the house. It took us (3 people) about 3-4 hours to clean it. Luckily, the only injury were very minor cuts when collecting glass. But it was very distressing. The table has been staying in the same location for a few years and had nothing unusual on it (nothing heavy or anything of that nature). The table was purchased in 2009 but it still should not explode in shards of glass. There were never any recall notices from IKEA about it. I contacted IKEA , they open a case, but then silently closed it (I called couple weeks after to see whats happening and was told that the case was closed because nobody was injured).
