The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Dresser with 6 drawers Lyncott Brown Dresser item: B615-31 D: 17.88 H: 37.50 W: 61.25

I bought a dresser at Ashley Furniture. The product is made of wood, and emitted really strong odors. The odors made me sick. I at first tried to sleep in another room as my asthma was badly triggered. I even had to go to urgent care and my doctor for a follow up. I tried to give the product a chance, then it was still making me sick after a month. i decided to place it outside in my patio. Even when letting it off gas in the patio, after 3 months, it is still strongly offgassing. I decided to return the product after all this

The product, in the report: Ashley Furniture Porter dresser with Attached Mirror

After opening two drawers In our Ashley furniture Porter dresser with attached mirror, my three year old son reached up to get something out and the dresser tipped forward. The entire dresser came toppling over. The mirror snapped off, hit our bed, and shattered.

Luckily, my husband put his arm out and shoved our son back before the dresser could land on him. When the mirror snapped off, it hit my husbands arm before the glass shattered all over my son’s head. Had the 190 lb dresser (this is the weight listed on the website, before clothes and mirror are attached), had we not been in the room with him, or had my husband not thought fast enough to shove my son out of the way, I am not sure if he would be here with us today.

After the dresser toppled, we noticed that there was a white plastic bag stapled to the back of the dresser. It contains an anchor. We NEVER knew that there was a safety anchor attached to this dresser, or that it was recommended that we anchor it to the wall. We paid Ashley Furniture to deliver and set up this furniture, and in my opinion, they were VASTLY negligent in not letting us know that the anchor existed (let alone offering to put it on).

We have several pieces of furniture in our home that are anchored to the wall. This is something that we take very seriously. Had we known that the recommended safety requirements for this dresser were to anchor to the wall, I can guarantee that we would have done so.

This was the scariest experience of my life. I thought for sure at the moment that the dresser fell that my son was underneath. We are lucky, but not because of Ashley Furniture and their delivery people. Someone was looking out for us, and it was not the safety concerns of the company who sold us this furniture.

The product, in the report: 3X3Children’s Dresser

The consumer says if multiple drawers are open at once, the dresser will tip forward. He says there is not enough weight in the back to keep it balanced. The unit fell on his child, but they were able to pull her out right away. The consumer is concerned because the dresser was totally empty at the time of the incident, and couldn’t imagine how it would be if there were clothes inside. The consumer contacted the store, who said they don’t take anything back but was advised that he should call back tomorrow to speak with a manager.

The product, in the report: Creme Cottage dresser from Ashley Furniture

Twice, my daughter’s dresser has fallen over on her. It was made and installed by Ashley Furniture (store we purchased from was in Nashua, NH) and it sold as a children’s bedroom set as well as just the dresser itself. It is the Creme Cottage model. I have attempted to contact the store as well as Ashley Furniture through their corporate website with no answer. The size and mass of the dresser could seriously injure or kill a child.
