The product, in the report: Argington Bam 6 Drawer Dresser in Ebony The model number of the dresser is bam2500eb
We own a kids bedroom set made by Argington and when my 3 year old opened all 6 drawers to its max (in a search for the perfect pajamas), the entire dresser tipped over pinning her between her dresser and her bed. It was the BamBam dresser which is extremely heavy. I replicated what happened and sure enough, when you open all of the drawers at once, the whole thing topples over. I checked to see if the dresser was level and it’s perfectly level, so it doesn’t naturally lean forward. I contacted Argington yesterday and they essentially told me they didn’t have anything to fix that and to just not open all 6 drawers. I asked that the matter be taken up with the owner and the problem evaluated in their warehouse for future shipments. This is an 80 lb dresser which toppled over onto a 35 lb 3 year old. She was very lucky that she didn’t have her legs broken. Everything that was fragile that was on top of her dresser was completely broken. There are now several scratches on the surface of the dresser from a large snowglobe sliding and falling off of it.

The product, in the report: From the Manufacturer The Picchu dresser is Argington’s answer to meet the additional storage demands in the nursery. The dresser works well alone, but it is even better in multiples. They can be vertically stacked to save space, or they work well side by side to offer great ‘out of sight’ storage while providing counter top space for pictures, lamps, and the like. Product Description Finding inspiration the world around, The Wonders Collection frames our global community at an approachable level. Each piece of furniture is named from one of the listed wonders of the world. We now have attached hangtags to each piece of furniture. Each hang-tag teaches the reader - mom and dad - and the listener - child - about the most fascinating and bewildering architecture and scientific phenomenon ever recorded. The Picchu dresser is Argington’s answer to meet the additional storage demands in the nursery. The dresser works well alone, but it is even better in multiples. They can be vertically stacked to save space, or they work well side by side to offer great ‘out of sight’ storage while providing counter top space for pictures, lamps, and the like. From me: The dresser is no longer being made by the manufacturer, however there are still some vendors that are selling them.
I purchased two of the Picchu dressers from an online retailer that are made by Argington a children’s furniture company that bills itself as eco-friendly and ‘safe’.
I purchased them in April and then in May of 2010 but did not start using them until my son was born in August of 2010.
Last month (beginning of September 2011) I noticed that most of the fronts of the drawers were literally coming off the drawers themselves. After further inspection, I saw that the fronts were glued on (no screws or dovetails or any other attachment) and the glue was in various states of failing. Luckily the drawer front that was the worst and almost completely detached was at the top of one of the dressers so my son couldn’t reach it.
However, when I pulled up that particular drawer (that I don’t use that much because it’s for his “future” clothes that are too big right now) it almost half off in my hand. It totally freaked me out because my son likes to stand next to me when I am putting away his clothes and had he been right there and I pulled on the drawer just a little harder, it could have fallen right onto him (and it’s heavy wood).
I’m also concerned because he also likes to open and close the drawers and because the fronts are coming off, there are large gaps between the front and the drawer side where his fingers could and almost have easily been caught. I understand the inherent dangers of opening and closing drawers, but this is more of a finger stuck in a crack that’s not supposed to be there type of situation.
