The product, in the report: Sony model no dvp-fx730 portable cd/dvd player

Sony portable cd/dvd player model no. DVP-FX730 has expanded/popped open unexpectedly causing the unit to not work at all. The entire left side is open and exposing the inside contents. This unit was charging inside our home and luckily I was standing near the unit when it happened and was able to unplug it and make sure no further damage was done. I have now read numerous reports of this issue. I believe this is a manufacturers defect and equivalent product replacement should be offered.

The product, in the report: Portable DVD player Brand Sony

The lithium ion rechargeable battery pack to our portable Sony DVD player expanded while charging. This is the second battery pack that we have had - the first one did the same thing and Sony sent us a replacement.

The product, in the report: Sony DVD player DVP-810 Lithium battery pack NP-fX110

While my 5 yr old granddaughter was watching a DVD on my Sony player(FX-810), the battery expanded to the point the case cracked open, exposing the inside materials. I took it from her immediately. It cannot be replaced and is no longer usable. This is an electronic device that has had very little use. Buyer beware.

The product, in the report: Sony portable DVD player model DVP-FX810 with attached battery pack NP-FX110

While children were watching a DVD, the attached lithium ion rechargeable battery pack swelled and split open. It appears that one of the internal battery cells swelled and ruptured the plastic case, breaking it loose from the DVD player. While no injury occurred, I am concerned about the risk of injury and fire related to this issue.

The product, in the report: A portable DVD player with 9-inch screen and a lithium ion rechargeable battery pack that attaches to the bottom of same.

I own a portable Sony 9-inch DVD player (model number NP-FX110) which, to my surprise, stopped functioning suddenly. It wasn’t dropped, spilled on or put in the sun. It was safe in it’s case in my climate controlled locker at work. Strange. Upon inspection I noticed what others have reported to saferproducts.gov. The battery pack is swollen!

The product, in the report: Battery (NP-FX110) swelled for my Sony DVD player DVP-FX930

Battery case on my Sony DVD player has cracked open due to swelling of the Li-Ion battery. The unit was not on charge and had not been used for several weeks. The unit was without problem after its last charge and use. No injuries occurred due to this swelling, but has rendered the unit unusable. I am concerned of what could have happened if this had occurred when the unit was charging.
